First Porsche can't decide which 997 to buy
#18
I not too long ago bought my first 911 and landed on an '08 997.1 C2S manual coupe. I drove a few 997.2 with PDK but just couldn't pull the trigger. What it came down to is that for a DD the manual just has the feel I want and love in a car, but I know that if I were to regularly be on the track the PDK would be very nice to have.

Get the 2009. No question. Direct injected engine, 40% fever parts ie no IMS, more horsepower, better insulated starter cable so no more failure there, newer and improved dash and ergonomics.
For only a few thousands more, get the newer car just for the fact that there is no IMS and it has the upgraded starter cable (a $1000 fix).
Added hp is a bonus.

There are many upgrades on 997.2 but does it worth $10k more to you. Nothing wrong with a manual 997.1S Cab. I had 2008 997S Cab and love it, it was a great car with tons of attraction after I put body kit and wheels on it. Good luck

997.2...roll the dice with an engine in a 997.1 car besides IMS and starter cable issues there is a far more common problem effecting all M97 engine cars. Bore Scoring and it is popping up a lot lately...
10k difference will not get you a new or rebuilt M97

That is a sweet deal and a great ride. Enjoy each and every mile. Remember that these "pets" get ill if there are stuck in the garage for too long. They yearn to be driven ...

The 09 has the latest engine...but try to find an 09 without the sport crono package and all the pasm or whatever it is called. Try to find a base Carrera w/ PDK and 18" wheels. All the other S add ons are useless puffery.
