Looking to buy 1st 911 turbo
Hi - am in market to buy my first 911 turbo. Looking at 2008 model w/ manual transmission. Have a couple of questions:
1) Assuming the owner took very good care of the car, what should be the cost differential between identical cars w/ one having 17k miles while the other having 24k miles?
2) What should be the cost differential between identical cars w/ one being bought used from authorized Porsche dealer while the other being bought used from a private dealer?
3) I always do a PPI, but can anyone give a credible response whether I should be concerned that the stage 4 Rev was 8000rpm while the normal range is >7400 and <7900 according to 911virgin.com
Thanks in advance!!

I can speak on the mileage - minimal effect on price - these aren't ferraris where that 10,000 mile difference is huge - whether it's 17,000 miles or 26,000 miles - it's low miles in the Porsche world. These cars are bullletproof and you will find 997 Turbo's with over 200,000 miles on the odometer in fact I believe there is one for sale on autotrader right now (I don't suggest that).
What I would do is NOT pay over 69k for a used 07-09 911 Turbo regardless if it has 15,000 miles or 30,000 miles - mid to high 60's is a good price point for a nice clean example.
I'll let someone else talk more about the DME scans and what the range findings can tell you.

Thanks Para82! Can you tell me how you arrive at $69k price point? I'm seeing most used 2008 911 turbos w/ 10-30k miles, whether from Porsche dealer or private dealer, having >$80k ask price. Even private parties are asking for at least mid-$70k. Blue book has a fair range from private dealers between $66-76k.

I am also in the market for 997.1 turbo in the next 2 months.
I am moving to turkey this summer and looking to buy there, you are lucky to pay 70s for them here. I will be paying 120k for 07 one there. No choice for me

I would think a lower mileage car like you're talking about that's decently optioned would be in the low to mid $70s. High $60s and I think there's a reason someone is asking near the lower end of the current market value range.
Can you post the actual DME scan with the overrevs. Range 4 is high. What's important in determining risk here is how many there were in each range, and how long ago they occured relative to the hour currently on the engine.

Asking price and sale price, are different.
It's easy to ask.
Your job is to find the best price for the car you want.
I always get cranky with people negotiating on a car they have not seen yet.
Go see the dealer, go see the private seller.
Go back a second time, or a third. If its too good a deal, the car is going to be gone. If its too high a price, the car will still be there. If weather is getting better, the price will remain high. Getting colder, more likely to get a deal. Any details in a PPI will aid in your knowledgeable negotiations.
Number one rule. It's a car, don't get emotional during negotiations.

BIG smoke - I agree w/ everything you said and thanks for the advice. I am looking at a Porsche down in North Carolina, but I am in NJ, however. I don't want to go down there unless I can be comfortable w/ getting a reasonable price. I however was surprised by some users stating that I should be paying near $70k for a 2008 turbo in good condition. This is my 1st time buying a car w/ this high a price tag so I don't know what the normal wiggle room that dealers have. Does your experience show that a 5% markdown or 10% markdown is doable for example? Below is the link to the car.

The Turbo at Leith Porsch is way overpriced.
OP - there is a beautiful 997 Turbo 4 miles from me that I have personally inspected and driven and is in great condition. I passed on it because I prefer the Carrera S experience. It has 30,000 miles and is silver on black leather 6speed loaded. Seller will do around 68k I believe. He doesn't track his cars either. Message me if interested.

There is a good thread on the 997 turbo board about DME reports. Full throttle first gear ends in a heart beat and I found every car I looked at had over revs. Look at the report which details how long ago they happened and what the duration was, but don't get to worked up about stuff below 5-6 (personally I think even small numbers of 5's are fine).
Bottom line, when you find the car you really want ask yourself how hard you want to push on price. In my opinion it's better to spend a little more to get the color/option/condition car you want rather than focus too hard on a super low price.
