Key shell button broke - 997.2 2 button
Any experience with the key shells on eBay? They range from $19 to $50 and all say NEW.
Just my button broke, the electronics and key are fine.
Peace

I cant remember which one I used but I did the one that would send you the kit or you can send them your key and they swap it over to a new shell. I did two keys, did one with the kit and the second sent to them,. Both worked flawlessly. Will try to find the vendor.,

Yes one button on mine broke when I accidentally dropped the key. Bought a complete shell on Ebay for less than 10 bucks (from China) replaced the button. You'd never know it was replaced.

I have just replaced mine. Both old key fobs actually. I bough two new for about 35 dollars. They even had blank blades included. Mine even had the Porsche Crest on the key fobs.
Just switch the blade for the old one and move the electronics to the new. You have to also move the battery terminals etc so you need something thin to grip it with without destroying them.
The most difficult part is the transponder since its glued with some kind of super hard resin. I used a carpet knife and cut around until it came loose. Looks really nice and they feel like higher quality and are heavier than the 997.1 but I guess you had the 997.2 from the start?

Thanx so much for the feedback. Unfortunately, there is only a 3-button model with the Porsche crest. I need a two button model with the Porsche crest. I sent the seller a question..... the two button models for sale right now don't have the crest.
I will give it some time.....

One of the "wings" on my lock/unlock button broke a few months back. I ordered an ebay fob shell (no electronics) and simply used the lock/unlock button from the ebay shell in the OEM shell. Worked like a charm and saved the hassle of having to move the transponder pill. So, you really don't need a Porsche crest on the ebay key fob.

Please note that you can order the Porsche crest separately if needed and if it is not included. I have seen that.
However, I found a 2-button remote from the same place I ordered my 3-button key fob. I send you the link on PM

My fiancee ordered one to replace the frankly cheap-feeling 997.1 key that I had for my birthday last February. Made in China, about $20 shipped, from a seller based in the US.
Mine came with the crest, too. Quality is so-so. A couple of the edges didn't line up, and were sharp, so I trimmed them with an x-acto knife. Looks like an OE key until you have it right up against your nose.
They're holding up so far. I got a three-button one, so everyone thinks I have a Targa. Maybe I can use that button for remote start, or something.

M7 '05 (bought in '09 CPO) came with 2 of the 997.1 fobs but about a couple weeks later one of them cracked in half so the dealer replaced it free, with a 997.2 fob (said the old ones were no longer available).
A few months after that the unlock button popped out, and I could see the plastic tab was broken. This time the dealer wanted me to pay for a new one.
I felt it was a shoddy design and would likely break again, so I made a little tab from a piece of shank from a dull X-acto blade, cut a recess for it in the front of the button where the broken tab had been, and epoxied it in place.
So far, six years later it's still in there doing it's job.

that is BRILLIANT
btw guys for those who have swapped to an ebay china replacement… why not just swap out the broken button? is it not a complete fit?
or even better yet before swapping out the new button from the china key fob add some crazy glue/epoxy to the button 'tab' to make sure it stays in place.

I agree with ^.
Have more people done this? I was thinking this may be the easiest and safest route.
I also note that for the early keys, there is an OEM rebuild kit #00004340014. Has anyone found the same for the 997.2 remote?
Thanks

I have done three of the black/grey upgrades to the newer all black versions and they're a lot nicer. As others have said, if just the button is broken just move the button from the replacement head to the existing key assembly - much easier.
