Have more people done this? I was thinking this may be the easiest and safest route.

I also note that for the early keys, there is an OEM rebuild kit #00004340014. Has anyone found the same for the 997.2 remote?

Thanks
I'm looking for the same thing. Have you found it?

I did precisely what Race2Win did. The Chinese knockoffs are not bad. But you have to be committed to the change, getting the chip out can be challenging due to the epoxy they used to secure it n the original shell. About $30 shipped out of the LA area. Overall, a better feeling item as the thing uses a heavier metal instead of plastic.

I replaced both my keys with the Ebay key shells. It was straight forward. Trick to get the transponder out is to use a heat gun
carefully heating up the surrounding plastic, It came out with ease.

To add to this I have now also added a key fob protection that prevents the buttons from being accidentally squeezed (bag, pocket Etc) which I think caused the broken button in the first place. The thing looks amazing. Real carbon fibre.

I constantly buy and replace mine with the eBay shell for new buttons only, and reuse the crest side on all my keys.

Just bought the three button model off Amazon to replace the top unlock-door button. Perfect fit on my 997.2 two button model. I just reused all the OEM parts that weren't broken.

Less than $20.00.

So you gained a third functional button? My 997.2 also has a 2-button factory key and I'm wondering if the third button does anything if I just get a 3-button shell. Thanks.

I did a DIY to stop from having to do this song and dance with the damn key all the time. Ordered new parts.. and epoxied (very thin layer) some tiny metal plates on the back of the tabs which break. Took some trial and error but I've had the fix on the keys for both my Cayman and 911 and no more ordering new parts. Its been about a year since I did the fix. Downside is I have to apply a couple more pounds of pressure with my thumb, but pressing harder is not a big deal. Before that I was only making it 6 months between replacing the buttons.

I kept my two button shell and just used the top button from the new remote. So no third button for me.

Default Cheap Solution for a 3 Button Key

The finicky Lock/Unlock button on my 997.2 remote finally gave up the ghost and fell out yesterday. I think the little nub had actually broken off a few weeks ago, but it was staying in place until it finally fell out. Thanks to this thread I think found a cheap replacement key shell so I can just swap over that third triangular button. At $17.99 and next-day Amazon Prime delivery, this looks like the deal of the day
