Clutch pedal switch replacement

Clutch pedal switch replacement
I am planning to change the parts on this because of getting warnings consistent with the failure of this part of the ignition relay.
I see there are two parts possible at suncoast, 1.) a clutch pedal switch, which is the one with the red plastic piece, and 2.) a clutch pedal ignition switch which is a white plastic mounted piece. Does one have to replace both with this repair, or is one usually the one that fails?

The white switch that gets depressed as the pedal is depressed is the ignition cut-out. The red colored switch that extends as the clutch is depressed is the cruise control cut-out /hill assist control (if you have a 997.2). You would be interested in replacing just the white switch.
Or, you could remove the the two leads from the white switch, install a jumper wire between the two leads and never have to worry about it again. I also removed the switch entirely so not to hear that annoying little clicking noise.

Thanks for the reply. What's the trick or type of way to jump it? Sorry if it's a basic question but what sort of part or needs? I'm good with most diys, but haven't done many electrical parts etc. on the cars. It may be basic, but don't want to mess it up.

OK, I understand. Just bypassing the unit altogether. Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. I saw in a few other places ideas of cutting/splicing etc. I just didn't want a too irreversible circumstance.

Nice fix - thanks for the pics and info. My only concern would be for those who aren't aware of the bypass (service tech at the dealer or god forbid, a valet) - would they inadvertently try to start when in gear and clutch not depressed?

If you are getting the "Fully depress clutch" message, it is the interlock switch (white). About 20 min fix. See my post (https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...placement.html). I do not recommend bypassing the switch. From what I learned after I replaced the switch, if you hold the key to the "Start" position for 30 seconds, it will bypass the interlock switch and start. I cannot confirm this.

Occasional delay for starter to engage after normal electrical power up with key turn. And eventual message to depress clutch during the sequence as well despite doing so. Multiple seconds delay with full ignition turn and then cranking.

You can also drill out the one solid end if a clip on wire splice so both wires can go through it, then squeeze the metal clip down through both wires, which makes the connection constant, which is how I did it in mine. This switch also creates an ignition delay to keep people that aren't good with manual transmissions from stalling their cars upon starting out. My switch was working fine and I jumpered it anyway, which results in a much more direct feel to the clutch behavior, more like a cable actuated unit. I think some have had issues doing this in the .2 cars.

I saw someone on the cayman site from a a web search who did this with a rocker switch. Made it into a kill switch other than just a jump. There are three leads on the switch used, power/load/ground. What would you do with these given only two wires coming from the unit on the car already there then?

When this switch fails, does it prevent the car from starting or does it behave like a jumpered setup? I just noticed my car starts without the clutch being depressed, but switch is there and properly plugged in. Weird thing is I still get the please depress clutch message in the dashboard.
