I would get the 991 for the same price as a 997.

I won't have a car that you can't see at least some of the mechanicals of the engine when you open the hood, or in this case, the trunk. The engine in the 991 is buried, which I can only assume would increase the cost of maintenance.

A totalled 991 with a salvage title would probably go for more than the trade-in value of my 2005 C2 base with 59K miles on it. But if someone offered me a straight-up trade on even a 2012 991 with 80K miles I'd take it in a heartbeat. As long as it was a stick that is. PDK they couldn't pay me to take.

I was thinking the same thing. But I think a fair question would be if we would be forced to keep the 991 of the same exact model/specs that we have now, would we swap assuming we have to keep it forever (thus no chance to make a profit from the difference).

Personally, I still probably would do it, but not for "performance" reasons... Moreso due to the refinements... especially better PDK, better cab roof and a few other things. The fact that it is a very tiny bit larger doesn't really bother me, since it is still quite nimble. But from a purely driver-car interaction standpoint I can definitely see why many wouldn't want to "upgrade."

Yeah if it was a cab I'd probably choose the 991, but on the coupe, the 997 is easier on the eyes. And the visibility in the 997 cabin is almost as good as my old bmw 2002, the steering is a+ too.

Who wants a nicely optioned base Macedamia 991?

I love my 997.1 absolutely everything about it but I badly want the 991. Just something about the looks and presence of it, those subtle styling evolutions inside and out. While I love the driving dynamics of the 997, I have driven a 991 and my preference is 991. It is definitely more GT and less of a drivers car but it still has that 911 feel and certainly sound.

I love my 7.1C2S. Never have I been in a state where no other cars catch my eye anymore. I do have a hot rod NB Miata but its just for hooning around. Its been paid for, for a long time, so no need to get rid of it.

That's a great price (probably due to the higher mileage than avg by Porsche standards). Too bad it's an automatic otherwise I'd go for it.

No. I had that opportunity when I bought my year-end leftover 2012 GTS cab and decided on mine versus a 2012 991S. Made my decision then and I'm not looking back now. No need to as I love my car.

I often fantasized about being able to buy a brand new out-of-production car model from the manufacturer. If such thing were possible, I would be very happy to buy a 2002 BMW M-Coup.

In such world, here is what I would choose to buy today. Keep in mind that both cars are brand new and prices of 997 were adjusted for inflation to reflect today's dollar:

997.2 C4S vs 991 C4S = 991 C4S
997.2 C4S vs 991 C = 997.2 C4S
997.2 C4S vs 991 S = 991 S

Carmax is an interesting dealer. They are a publically traded company that is on the upswing. I expect their model to be the future of used cars sales. Not perfect but more modern and consumer focused.

Anyways, I think their whole system is all corporate policy based and can show some weaknesses, especially with options. That car is a gem and a steal probably! And you get a 5 day money back guarantee that would actually get honored. You can't haggle on price, but you can on condition. Maybe new set tires, detail. or brake job, etc.. Apparently their extended warranties are well regarded, and cheap for Porsches (another possible weakness in their formula).

You ask this question in 997 forum and obviously some people will tell you 997 is the best and last driver car. I am sure if this question in 991 forum, 100% will tell you buy the 991. I've owned two 997 but I love my 997TT currently, back to your question unless it was 997.2 GTS, I would take the 991 over any 997.2 base, S, 4, 4S any day.

Ha, well 100% over in the 991 forum, they've already decided.

Its about fifty fifty here so this is a more interesting place to ask the question.
