The guy you want to reach out to is Wheeler. He's done the H&R spring swap himself, and I recall that he said the new front springs were a bit longer. He may have some sage advice for you.

Here...
I laid this out for everyone in a post a couple weeks ago:
11-12 997.2 GTS:
Eibach - 7217.140 (from Eibach directly) - ~25mm drop from base GTS
TechArt - 097.200.100.009 (from Sharkwerks) - ~25mm drop from base GTS
H&R - 29188-1 (from H&R directly) - ~32mm drop from base GTS

11-12 997.2 4GTS:
Eibach - 7222.140 (from Eibach directly) - ~25mm drop from base 4GTS
TechArt - ?
H&R - 54097-2 (from H&R directly) 1 ~32mm drop from base 4GTS

You want H&R item number 54097 or 54097-2. If you have 29188 or 29188-1, you've got the wrong spring.

Edit: I just copy pasted the info I researched for the GTS. All of these springs are interchangeable with any base or S version of the Carrera as well as the cabrio/targa versions of each vehicle trim.

i realize the part numbers on the box are different but the part numbers in the box are the same. my issue is i am realizing the "compensating plate?" or thats what porsche seems to call it doesnt fit. is this an issue for everyone?

Figured i would ask this here since you gentleman seem to know what you're talking.
Would the Targa 4S require the same H&R or Eibach spring as the Carrera 4S?

From what the techs I spoke to told me the answer to your question is, yes. The 4S and Targa 4S will use the same springs.

It's the additional weight of the front differential that affects the spring rate so there are different kits for RWD, AWD and Turbo variations (turbo has different rear springs with additional turbo weight I was told).

Some clarification. It's not exactly the 'part number' that's different. It's the 'kit number', because, just as you said, the compensating plate is part of that kit and may be different for different models of 997s.
