Interesting discussion so I decided to just grab some sample numbers from eBay of all places of cars for sale by color.
Now it's only what's currently for sale during the winter season but interesting none the less.
Black (83)
Silver (50)
Gray (29)
White (22)
Blue (20)
Red (14)
Yellow (7)
Green (2)

I think if I could ever find a SY 911 with a beige interior that I like, I'd have to think of a crafty way to convince thevwife sell her Benz and buy it!

I am not sure about white, but certainly the major colors ordered are black, red and silver. Really, all you need to do is look at eBay and do an unofficial count of the colors for sale. One rarely sees the others. When I located mine, and compared it to a silver one available too, my son said: "Now you're talking Dad!".
If you use that eBay approach, what you could rightly conclude is that "The sort of owners that sell their cars on eBay tend to like black, silver and red cars". That says nothing about 911 style owners in general. Also if the same care gets resold over and over on eBay, maybe because the color turns out to be a dud, you may find it improperly inflates your estimates.

This question comes up periodically.
Porsche owners today are risk adverse people. They want to be able to unload their car quickly if they decide a 911 is not for them. As a result, in the USA, the most popular colors (for literally decades) are black, silver, white and red. Red to a lesser extent in the last twenty years. You will find more black and silver cars than you know what to do with.
There are very few PTS cars out there because many form the opinion that color doesn't give you added HP.
The very unusual colors that are available colors from Porsche like Nordic Gold or Macadamia Green are generally experiments by Porsche to offer alternatives to the black, silver, white routine, but you will usually see them go away after 2-3 model years, when they become failures. Those colors then immediately date your car--which is or is not a big deal to some of us. My color was a 1996-7 standard color that was a marketing failure in those days. I resurrected it for the 997 as a PTS and many like it today.
Porsche has an extremely good paint shop but sadly today's buyers are way too conservative. That conservative nature has now even infiltrated the German home market. When once the Germans had a lot of fun with wild colors on their 911s, today, they are hardly any different than Americans. They simply do not want to stand out.
Here's a look of a typical day at the factory, and you tell me which color(s) are the most popular today:
