Adding Sport Chrono?

You can add the "sport mode" functionality to your Carrera S with a kit from Suncoast Parts. It doesn't appear to add the "wart", just the sport button and sport mode function.

Awww....so much hate for the wart! I actually like it. It looks cool when it's lit up.
I use it as a trip computer to time runs to the grocery store and to figure out which way is faster to get there. Maybe one day i'll get to use it as intended.

The 'Sport' mode is great, especially with either TIP/PDK.
The 'Chrono' part, however, is completely useless pre 991. Anybody who actually cares about lap times will use something more accurate and automated (Harry's lap timer, for example).
I was stunned when I first found out how limited the chrono's functionality was... Surely there is a way to do something more than using the stalk to clumsily start/stop a timer?? Nope.
Thanks for the tip about durametric at least being able to turn the light on... Now it won't look like I have a burned out bulb in my cabin.

If you have a tip without sport and find the shifting performance 'good enough', then no, there is no need to pay for the Sport software upload (which also comes with a button).

You need to consider install cost, too. The combination of low cost hardware from Suncoast or Sunset (with whom I do business), and cost from your dealer to install and program may be the same if you buy it all from your dealer. I'd recommend getting estimates.

My local dealer wanted more but price matched the Suncoast Porsche price. It was something like a few hundred to have them install it, a couple hours of labor.
It might be best to get it thru your local dealer because they have to request some codes from Germany to activate it in your car.

The throttle curve gets modified. Full throttle occurs at half pressed.
A lot of people swear the car gets faster. I don't see it, but I know I have less fine control of the throttle. So it seems faster, or at least more responsive.
I would rather move my foot farther and have better control feathering the gas. You can determine shift points with either the Manual or the PDK. So the change in the shift range doesn't matter (to me), although the throttle blip on the PDK is nice.
My preference is to hit the PASM button to stiffen up the suspension and keep the throttle curve untouched. That's backwards to most.
Bottom line to me is that SC doesn't offer a lot on the MT. I failed to mention launch control (on the PDK).
I sense I lay outside the norm on this topic. I will bet there will be plenty who tell you something different!
