This approach works for me or I only get 3/4. Or 9 o'clock. 90 degrees off.

The part number for the ring seems to be 997 specific. Don't know if this is designed for the 996.

As an FYI, I bought this for my 996 today and put it on. It's a tight fit and sticks up a little bit. But the gas cap goes on and clicks indicating to me that it's sealing properly.

I haven't tried filling the tank yet, so that will be the real test.

I haven't read anything about this fitting on 996s...

Looks like I will have to stop by Rector later today and pick up one of these.

My previous Boxster did not have this issue. I thought I ead going crazy yhe last few fill ups with the pump clicking off at like 75%.

Did my second fill up last night with another known difficult pump. Full insertion again. No twist of the nozzle. Perfect fill up.

I'm beginning to believe!

BTW ... The fit was right on the 997 as well.

I was troubled with the mixed meanings and finally decided the subject matter was best dealt with head on! I hate the typos ... The fit was tight, not right ... No comment required!

Just bought my first tank of gas since installing the plastic part on the filler neck. Went right to 10 gallons before clicking off. We'll worth the $10.

This is not scientific until there is a lot more data, but this first try has me very encouraged!
Maybe I missed it, can you show it on? I'm OP.

Thanks ADias for sharing the references. Not easy to do from my phone. I did my third fill up on another known difficult pump last Friday. Again, nozzle full in and no angle and another perfect fill. Best 7 bucks I may have ever spent!

Just discovered this. Going to buy the adapter now... This is something that seems like it would benefit being a sticky since this is a very common issue due to the design of the tank?

Thanks to all and FYI, this is not just a CA problem. I've experienced problems with different pumps here in PA, including Costco which sells 93 octane. I either turned the nozzle or just kept going after the auto shut-off usually until I reached overfill - not a good thing. Interestingly enough, Costco has now posted pictures at the pumps advising motorists that it is incorrect to turn the nozzle outside of the traditional 12 o'clock position because it affects the automatic shut-off system. So I now have this on my shopping list.

It turns out this ring helps, but it is not an absolute fix. Then again, for the cost, I'm glad to have it.
