Default Diagnosis update

Talked to Sean Freed this afternoon, seems the broken shifter cable diagnostic by me and posters on this thread was spot on.

Sean stated he personally had never seen a broken shift cable but plenty that had 'popped out' of place. Which he expected to find with my car; verdict is a set of cables and two hours of labor.

He advised against the cup cables or after-market due to increased shifting efforts. I'll let him replace the cables and look at a short-shifter down the road.
