Default Did I get sold a used part as new?

Hi all,

So I order 2 NEW engine mounts from a renown Porsche part supplier for my new 997. They arrived today. I get one mount in the box that is obviously new conteco.

The other mount I received in the box tonight looks.. well.. kinda used. What do you think?

Can I presume that the manufacture stamp is 36th week in 2006? NOS? The thread kinda looks like a nut was on it...

Not sure I'll order another part from them...

Looks like it may have been used.

Could also be an honest mistake on dealers part, maybe someone bought new and returned used without their knowledge. :dunno:

Contact the supplier and ask them to make it right. If they don't make it right then post back who you bought it from so everyone can avoid or shop cautiously.

Call the supplier, send the photo, ask them about it. I would hope, they did not know it was used. Let them try to make it right? I can't tell from your photo, but does it look previously installed? or used with lots of miles on it? Previously installed I would want a price adjustment, used and worn out? I would want a replacement, pronto. As I would note invest the time in installing something worn out.

could have been mistakenly put back in a new box and put back on the shelf then not looked at when sold

That's a tough one. If it was used, someone went to a great deal of trouble cleaning it up.

I'd be tempted to say that that was sent out to a customer and came back either uninstalled or installed and immediately un-installed. What does the other one look like? Got any pics?

If they sent it out to someone in error and that person took it out of the box and started putting it on before they realized that it was the wrong part, I can see it looking like that. Not necessarily anything wrong with it if that's the case.

So customer support did respond to my inquiry with:

Hello,

I forwarded our supplier an your message including image.

Per our supplier:

It's not used, they all look similar. Lots of people complain about htis mount, they think it's not Corteco or it's used or not up to expectation. I don't really know what to say other than maybe its not used and all our stock is the same, the DIY community seems to expect something more htan we can deliver.

I can send another one if you' like, it's probably not going to be a lot better, but its your choice.

----

So the supplier sends me a mount that looks new in the box with this one (I'll post pictures of that one tonight don't worry) that has the sticker and doesn't have to me at least obvious marks from being bolted into the car. Here's a message to the supplier: We're not stupid. I know what darkened threads looks like on a part and a burled end from where it was hit to get it out. You might be able to pass that onto your mechanics and then let them dupe their customers... but you're going to get called out. Or do us the courtesy of calling it a NOS part if that is indeed what it is. Typical disdain for the consumer when they get called out. If everyone complains about the part... do something about it!

We'll see how this turns out.

BS.
my advice - return both parts. buy those mounts instead:

It is a great product.

Hmm. While their email seems a bit curt, keep in mind that the curt part was typed by the supplier, not by the distributor. They just passed along what the supplier wrote. The supplier DID offer to take yours back and send you another one. On the flip side, there was no benefit to the supplier from forwarding that message to you--it would only make you mad so why bother? Just deal with the situation and move on.

For the OP's part, I am always surprised at how people let these situations go south before the situation is actually resolved. Using words like "dupe" and writing angry emails does nothing to get you what you want. Write all the angry emails you want--after you get the shiny new part in your hands.

I am curious, are these new mounts or rebuilt ones?

Oh yeah, if that's not a rebuilt part, it definitely got in another customer's hands before you.

That might not bother me on a Chevy but on a P-car, I'd want a shiny, unblemished one.

Are they taking care of the shipping both ways?
What is the cost of a motor mount? is it more than shipping?
So? Is it worth shipping it back?
