Default 2010-2011 997.2 CPO Buyer Inquiry - Very Low Mileage - Good/Bad?

Greetings Porsche Owners

In Jan 2015, I’m planning to purchase a 2010 - 2011 911s coupe, CPO from a USA Porsche Dealer. I’m somewhat flexible with options, color, PDK vs manual transmission, etc. I’ll definitely purchase a CPO car for peace of mind/risk mitigation of surprise repairs if they arise.

I’ve been monitoring Porsche Dealer used 911s inventory via Porsches 911 search tool for the last 3 months. There appears to be a steady supply of CPO 911s throughout the US dealer chain.

I do see some nice 2011’s with low mileage (5500 - 7000 miles) that do not seem to be selling quickly for some reason. While lower mileage is always desirable, I’d like to ask the forum members (with more 911 ownership experience than I) if low miles is a potential worry?

I realize Porsches are made to be driven. Is there any downside to purchasing a vehicle that has been very lightly used over a 3-4 year lifespan?

Let me know your thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks in advance and I’ll say this forum is a wonderful source of info and a helpful/supportive group of Porsche enthusiasts.

My car is 4 years old with just under 15,000 miles. I recently did about 2,000 miles in the past month, so it's been a fairly low mileage car. The only reason it has such low mileage is because it was my Florida car and I was only able to make it down to Florida about a total of 2 months each year. So in those two months I'd rack up about 3,000 miles each year.

Lower mileage isn't bad per se, but it is important, I believe, to do the diligence then to understand how those miles were put on. For example, was it a summer car which was properly stored when not being used? That's probably better than say a car from a colder climate that was driven sparingly all year rounds (i.e., had cold starts and short trips in winter months). Personally, I would look for a car with at least 4k of annual mileage as a sign of being properly exercised, if you will. You'll save some money on the purchase price and still get a car in great shape if it's a CPO.

Good luck!

Thanks for the quick response Schpee007.

As part of purchase due diligence, I'll see if the dealer has any info on the vehicle's driving history.

I'll also request a PPI and DME to check for over-revs/ranges.

I wouldn't worry about low mileage on a 997.2 car, a lot of Porsches are 2nd, 3rd, and 4th vehicles, although they are made to be driven, many are not with all the low mileage 911's out there. Get a PPI for the warm and fuzzy, go test drive it, good luck.

'11 car is just 3 years old. Low milage is a huge plus. All seals are still fresh. On a 7-8 yr old car it would not be such a good thing.

Second this.

Lack of use and what it affects isn't a linear curve. Otherwise, new cars would have seal leaks and such.

A 2 to maybe 4 year old car with low miles, but with reasonable servicing and no history of mistreatment or abuse, would to me not be a scary car at all.

There is the question of pricing though. The car might be priced rather optimistically with the seller unwilling to come down. And maybe with some justification.
