Default probably should have asked this before as well...

sadly, this could have helped me(sic seinfeld, credit where...blabla) and not really sad...anyway... are the brakes different from base 997 to the S...? i know they are red on the S, is that the only difference...? i have never actually looked at the base brakes up close...this is to further help me understand whether or not the MY02 996 18's will fit my car without actually mounting one, or 2... tia, kk

The brakes wont't be an issue on a base C2 for your 02 wheels. 18" wheels were optional on 997

The answers to questions like this are plentiful on the various manufacturer and parts dealer web sites. Hawk has a very thorough fitment guide here: http://www.hawkperformance.com/sites...ATALOG_WEB.pdf

Recent model Porsche pad info begins on page 114. You can even find drawings of what the pad shapes look like starting at page 137 (good for visual verification you have the right match). There are a lot of variations for our cars, look them up.

I didn't realize yours was an S. I believe rotors and calipers are larger on the S. I think there will be clearance issues as S cars came with 19's

Why not check with someone who sells wheels, like tirerack or wheelenhancement. The former doesn't sell Porsche OEM of course, but you can figure out valid sizes/offsets. The latter does sell Porsche wheels.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a lot of people here refer to using 18" wheels for winter setups. I don't recall ever recall seeing someone have a problem with it. I'm guessing someone with 18" winter setups on an S will chime in and if not, maybe a post asking that in the title would get an answer (your title doesn't say anything about what you are asking and a specific title often gets more results).

Not only calipers are different, mounting holes in uprights have different distance so your base 997.1 car will be on you calipers, you cannot mount S or GT3 calipers without replacing uprights, hubs, etc.
now, and trust me on that, you do not need bigger calipers. You can use proper track pads for track, for street driving stock 997 base calipers are more than enough. It is what 996 turbo csr used to have. If you dislike the color - buy a $40 caliper paint kit on ebay and paint them red. It looks ok.
Do not worry about caliper size. It has more than enough stopping power. If you want to improve brakes - replace master brake cylinder with one from gt3, it pumps more volume and improves brakes feel a lot.

Base and S and gt3 car wheels have same exact offset. They are called narrow body - NB cars.
4 and 4s and gt3 rs cars are widebody and have different rear wheels offset.
18 or 19" does not matter. Search forum a bit to find actual offset numbers.

u... i think you misunderstand me, i am not trying to change brakes, i have the S car and just want to know if the brake calipers are the same size so that when someone says the 18's will fit, but they are talking about fitment on a base car, i need to know if on an S car the clearance will be the same per caliper size/clearance for this specific wheel, cause there are also 18's that come on the base carrera, but their profile may be a bit different...i thhink i see them in your sig, yes?, thanks for the nfo though, and, i love my brakes, red and all...
