Default Track Insurance

Hey everyone...

I have 2 track days coming up in the next 45 days (Talladega GP & Road Atlanta) and I'm going to grab track insurance this time. Does anyone have any recommendations/experience to provide? I'd hate to rely blindly on a google search.

First I would thoroughly check with your street provider. some have clauses, some do not - and some vary by state - as to whether you're covered on track for DE's (usually the clause is something like "non-timed events" or "no competition events". USAA in MD used to cover me but a couple years ago added a rider prohibiting anything on the specific word "track". D'OH!

anyway, if that's a dead end, go Lockton. PCA recommended. Great rates and customer svc, and very easy to deal with in the event of an incident. ask me how i know.

I like ontrackinsurance.com
No affiliation and I've never filed a claim but they are very personable
and seem I believe are members here. Anyways, they were recommended by someone here.

The PCA has some deal with locktonmotorsports.com and they seem fine as well.

I use OnTrackInsurance.

Thankfully I've never had to use them but appreciate the piece of mind while I'm driving (or after I'm finished driving, I don't think I actually think about insurance while I'm driving 'flat out'.)

Can anyone expand on how these insurances work (event only) and what about pricing...how does that usually work? Thanks

usually it works like this - you pay an abstract $1k additional fee per event, and nothing happens. then eventually you reassess how much you have paid total for that insurance, what car costs now and stop buying it while learning to drive more carefully.

It's not me I worry about :-) I'm still in the lower rungs and have had some close calls with someone who'd gotent ahead of themselves. At Buttonwillow, I gave a Turbo S a point by on the short straight prior to Nascar. They hesitated and then gunned it like a rocket at the last minute passing on the left and then still tried to hit the Apex while I was already entering the turn. I had to lock up the brakes and put two wheels off and the car just missed my by about a foot. I had an instructor with me and he assured me I was in the right and went up and had a little chat with them. After that, I go for the insurance.

Haven't priced Lockton on the 997 yet, but when I was tracking my Z4 M Coupe it was $200 and change with a $35K stated value and a 5% deductible, IIRC. Multi-day events same price as single day, so leverage the premium! They have a multi-event deal, too, or at least used to. Should cover track damage and clean-up as well as your car.

I priced out Lockton and Ontrackinsurance.com.....both the same price...both reputable company's. I went with on track insurance because they are forum members, Clarke at Apex Perf knows them and they responded faster to my call.

Ah, good to know! Thanks everyone for their input!

I'm generally not a 10/10 driver but like someone mentioned, I am worried about someone else's mistake. Last time out I saw some iffy stuff that made me think twice.

That being said, there's a few spots left for the Talladega event on Nov 16. $200 for the day, $400 with the school/instructor. Hit me up if you're interested. It's going to be a relatively small group... not the NASA or PCA traffic jam.

I guess it means you can go "flat out" if you want

My track experience has always been in 10-20,ooo dollar cars. I have always assumed self insurance. Don't think I would take my 50-100,ooo car on the track self insured.

I priced my '10 C2S vert(with a value of around 70k) and I believe I was quoted around $500-600...can't remember for certain though.
