Default Thinking About Upgrading to paddle shift wheel

Sorry if this is a duplicate question. Has anybody swapped the standard PDK steering wheel with the buttons for the steering wheel with the paddle shifters? Is there anyway to simply add paddle shifters without changing the steering wheel? Any advice would be appreciated.

Champion and Techart sell conversion kits for the button wheel.

Or...unless you absolutely must keep the button wheel you can buy a customized clean paddle wheel from Dallas Custom for less than the conversion kits. If he has one in stock.

I put a 2011 paddle shift wheel from a Turbo on my 2010 C4S that came with thumb shifters.

Took 30 minutes and has been a satisfying upgrade.

Lights on wheel don't light up though.

The lights should work with a new clock spring. Dealer can make it happen for less than $100!

If your car is a 2010. It should work, not with a clock spring but with a software config via piwis. Is you put a wheel with lights on a 2009, light will not work as there is a different wiring harness.

Anyone know what the Techart paddle upgrade costs? I'd prefer to keep my heated wheel versus the OEM sport steering wheel upgrade.

Got in touch with Techart today. Here's what they said:

In the silver to match the interior trim they are $795 for the set. Custom painted versions are available for $1095. Your steering wheel will not need to be sent in.

A contrarian on this topic - Porsche's dual (redundant) shift buttons make a lot of sense. Paddles are me too, PAG's buttons are one of the many, original/different, Porsche design features and I love them.

The crowd arguments are:
(i) hit them with thumb by mistake -- bad form
(ii) no need to have redundancy because I should not shift in a corner -- used to be the case, but with PDK mid-corner shifting is another advantage, easy to do with buttons, confusing with reversed paddles.

Be a non-conformist, learn the buttons, be different.

I argued for this side some months ago. I'm still there and what Tony says makes sense to me. The PDK combined with stability management allows mid turn shifts. The buttons are perfect for this. I have yet to accidentally bump a button, and love that they are there without having to move a finger off the wheel. If I had paddles on a different car I might feel differently. But the Lexus and F250 don't have paddles! I'm staying with my buttons.
