Lots of great ideas here, thank you all. Does anyone have a pic of their 997 with the GT3 style checkered stripe? Anyone also have a small 911 door decal? Something like this:
I personally am not a fan of plastic stickers or decals on any 911. It is such a beautiful timeless car and in my opinion stickers only detract from the look. But to each his own.
I have the "Carrera S" on my sides… it made, in my opinion (beauty is in the eye of the beholder), a dramatic change from just being plain Arctic Silver. I guess it depends on car colour but, in my case, it was well worth it!
When I bought Moby he had "Carrera S" decals. I wasn't sure I liked them, and they were removed when the dealer replaced the stone guards. When I saw Moby without decals he just didn't look right. The side profile looked way too plain. I think if the sills were black like on a 4S, the side profile would look better. So, I put the decals back on and have been happy with the result ever since.
Opinions are definitely polarized on this. Some love 'em. Some hate 'em. Each to their own. Thank dog we don't all drive cars that look identical! I love the way you can make the distinctive 911 shape look so different.
Here's Moby on vacation:
A while ago some posted a picture of a black car with white decals and I think that looked absolutely amazing.
My opinion is that I don't like decals or stripes on cars as they look a little too boy-racer in my opinion. Now if it's a track car or a GT3 that sees a lot of track time, the rising checkered flag graphic is not bad, but I still think the GT3 looks better without it. Surprisingly, I like the carbon fiber stone guard on that silver car OK, as I have a lot of CF on my car and that might look OK. When I did my RUF RGT rear bumper project, I wanted to protect the paint on the bumper so I actually cut some carbon vinyl and applied it to the surface right behind the rear wheel that gets blasted with road debris. Since it's black it essentially gets lost in the darkness of the wheel well but still protects the paint and can be removed and replaced once it gets beat-up. I've attached a couple pics, but it's really hard to see in there.
