If you're going down the claying/polishing rabbit hole, I recommend this guy's videos:

I'm a fan of finishing with Liquid Glass after a wash. It's been around for a while and works great, each application adds a layer of protection and shine to the finish.

Maybe this has been discussed already but after washing your 997 as you are drying the car off (nooks and crannies) does anyone open the engine compartment to wipe off the water around the edges, etc...reason being is when I do this water comes splashing down into my engine bay and intake...I try to anticipate it and use a large microfiber towel but it makes a mess...just wondering how others handle this...thanks

I get a lot of compliments and shock about the age of my 997 (2005 launch edition built in 2004)

I keep it simple and gentle. Light hand wash only when really needed, super soft materials. I moved away from handwashing every week to using a spray on quick wax instead. I do this in between washes and takes about 15 minutes. My car has been looking it's best lately and just as shiny as the 2013 paintjob on the it's garage mate.

I do a major wash and wax (zaino) about every 3 months.

I do same thing here and get a lot of compliments. I use zaino quick detail, but looking at trying a different product

Zaino quick detail is what got me to switch over from washing so often - great product. I am currently using Eagle One wipe and shine Quick Detailer with great success. Picked up two of them at the local AutoZone for about 8 bucks.

I use a blower to get most of the water out then capture the little that is still left when I open the trunk. Same method for the frunk.

Zaino products. Black 09 C2S coupe.

The car is 5 years old, paint is fantastic. Wash infrequently. Garaged FL car, no salt, snow. Long rinse, then the wash, Toro leaf blower dry, Zaino #8 to finish. Two coats Zaino 3-4 times a year. Never let anyone else wash it, very careful when doing it. Use a micro fiber cloth for the wash, goes in the rag bin after 1 wash.

A black car is tough. A couple grains of sand and too much elbow grease…
