Joining the 997 Club - First Time Porsche Owner
Hi Guys,
I've been scanning the forums for a few months now and finally pulled the trigger on my first Porsche - 06 997 C2.
It took me a little while to figure out exactly what I wanted, and it started off as a 996, but then I got a little scared away with some of the preventative maintenance issues and earlier problems. I decided to beef the budget up a little bit with the O.K. from my better half, and here I am with the 997. I bought the car from an authorized Merc dealer, which was acquired through a trade in from a PCA member (going with an SUV for the family). The guy literally kept every receipt and invoice since day one, practically changed the oil every 3-4k, and from the records the car was really well taken care of.
Out of fairness and honesty, hah, i'm not the best at driving 6 speed, so I opted for a tip so that both my wife and I can enjoy driving it, and get familiar with the Porsches. It doesn't take much for me to be impressed, and although I hear its not as an engaging experience as a 6 speed, we freaking love it!
As far as mods, I don't plan on doing much for now but I wanted to change out the side markers to the euro clears, is it worth going with the ones ECS sells, or are the Suncoast or Pelican Parts ones better or the same? I'm just trying to go OEM/or Genuine Porsche parts.
First stop is Rennwerke in Elmsford on Wednesday just to get familiar with the shop and get the oil changed. I'd like them to do the first one just to start me off before I start doing it myself. Everything looked good on the PPI I had done at Autohaus, but figured it wouldn't hurt to have the pros do the first change.
Look forward to continue reading all of the great threads and suggestions, i'm going to need plenty being the new noob on the block

Hey thanks, appreciate it. Yea I need to work on my pics, I just snapped a quick one on Saturday before it began to downpour. Planning to take it for a cruise on Route 22 tonight near the reservoir before I pick my wife up, hopefully snap a couple over there.

Congrats! I too began by looking for a 996 as the 997's were too expensive for my wishes, but saw one on a local dealer's website and overnight they dropped the price ten grand so I blazed on over and negotiated a few thou less. That was 5 1/2 years ago. Every morning when I get in it I'm stoked like the first day. I could sell it now for about ten grand less than I paid, which works out to about the monthly cost of leasing a Nissan Altima. But I have 2 1/2 more years on a B2B warranty and no desire to change it for anything else. This is the first car I've owned (and I've owned a lot) that I did not grow bored with for this long.
