Numeric Racing vs OEM shifter
#32
No more slop! After disassembling the console and adjusting some cables I found the problem. That's what happens when you don't think! I was on autopilot during the install and don't think I saw anything that said to rreinstall the plastic washer from the OEM shifter. Totally obvious, by an oversight on my part.
I installed the Numeric SSK myself and have this exact same issue but cannot seem to find the original plastic washer. Sorry guys but I'm a newb and never post. I looked for it but can't seem to find it on the original kit. Can anyone suggest how I can get another one? And exactly where does it go? Thanks!

DavidRoy, here are a few more pics of the sleeve in question. Looks like p/n 996 424 145 01, or Fastening Part for Cable Adjustable or FPCA, might include the sleeve.
The sleeve is keyed so make sure it is flush with the FPCA. If it isn't flush just remove and slide it in from the other end and it will fit properly.
Looks like this when the sleeve is incorrectly installed. Noticed that it is not flush with the FPCA.

Think I may have found the source of the extra play in the shifter. I've got the Numeric Racing SSK installed and will be installing the cables soon. I removed the console to take a look and see if it was the FPCA. It looks to be fine.

I had some parts where the material wasn't up to specifications. It also doesn't look like grease was applied to your shifter and should have been during assembly. Apply a small amount of grease. There is also a warranty that will cover this. Just contact me with any question.

I am very happy with my Numeric... did it myself. See USMC's thread for my posts there.

^^ i'm looking for advice on the cable issue as well. i'm afraid that adding cup type cables will introduce more nvh than i'd like and i believe the numeric cables are a facsimile of cup cables. my semi solid motor mounts are enough but i am seriously considering the numeric with my oem cables. i'm currently w/ the 997ssk. any advice re cables is appreciated.
To address your question about NVH, I had not noticed any increase... It feels like it should now. Razor sharp and precise.
My brother has the Porsche SSK with OEM cables. It took him one drive in my car for him to order the same setup.
Do the cables, you will not regret it.
Thanks,
Mark

I have the Numeric shifter and cables on my car. It was actually fairly straight forward. Hardest part was re-fitting the rubber insulation grommet holding the cables where they go through the body to the undercarriage. I do have a 4 post lift although it could of been done easily on high jack stands.

I plan to reach out to Numeric on this one as well... GREAT product though - I love it.
