best tire choice for a DD Carrera 2?

I have a c2s and pilot super sports. They're definitely quieter than the pilot sports to my ear, and a nice ride- but we are on 19's. 18's would surely be a softer ride.
Quiet is relative, as I'm in a cab - which top up or down comes with a completely different baseline of noises compared to a coupe.
I haven't burned them down yet, and I've put about 15k miles on them since September 2013.
This is actually shocking to me because my M Roadster was eating tires like an aardvark at an ant farm. I was sure the little frog would be going through them faster than the BMW but thankfully not so.
As for wanting the wife to love the long trips...
Admittedly my passenger seat is empty much more than I like it. Mine doesn't mind the tire noise, but she HATES the top down, regardless of windows or windscreen, and the noise she makes about it is much louder than anything the Pilot SS can make.
On the bright side, the empty seat never says "Okay we can slow down now" or "Can we put the top up now?!"

fair enough...
the fronts appear to be original PS1s... which would explain their rock-like characteristics...
they seem to get a little quieter with a little heat in them, but compliance is virtually nil...

S04s went on today along with a MAJOR alignment correction.
car drives much better, much quieter, inpact noise isn't improved much, if at all, but everything else is looking up!
600+ miles tomorrow will be the real test!

Nitto Invo
I'm running Nitto Invos on both my '05 997.1 C2S cars without any issue. 235 19s on the fronts and 305 19s on the rears. No issues, handle and drive great and much quieter than the Bridgestones and Michelins that were on them before, plus you can get a set of four fur under $1,000 (Rears are about $260 from Discount Tire Direct).

I am a late entry, but can attest to Michelin Super Sports. I had just over 20k on rears before change and fronts are still going after 25k +.... Good luck and let us know the performance.

Buddha, I have just over 100 miles on my new set of S-04s. I like the improvement in road noise and ride comfort compared to my prior RE050As. At what point did you feel them settle down in the corners? I went over a mountain pass here in CO today in spirited fashion and they felt a little squishy on the tighter corners/had some understeer.

1300 miles on the S04s last weekend, overall I'm definitely happy. traced a small rattle to the shirtfer-boot-trim. I'll need to sort that out, but the tires were great in some VERY heavy rain...
they were a little soft in the corners, but still seemed very predictable. tramilining wasn't too bad either.
Next project is that rattle and spark plugs (ungh, Kill me now).

If you arent a snow driver then you can get just the DW's for dry and wet. They have a great sidewall that is stiff enough for spirited driving but has enough flex that its very comfortable. The price is great as well.

^^^ looked hard at the DWS tire... but with a 4WD Jeep in the garage (and the wife's 4wd Sequoia, and the other 4wd jeep at the farm, and the three 4wd Dodge Diesel's at the farm, and the other other 4wd jeep at the farm....) well.... a true summer tire was really the best possible choice.

I have Invos also, very quiet and smooth riding, much better than PSS in that regard. However, they do flat spot a little over night and it takes 3-4 miles for them to smooth out. They perform very well when they are hot, great traction. When they are cold they are not so good and let go suddenly at the limit with no warning. They do well in the wet for me, better than the PSS I had before. A good choice for someone looking for a DD tire.
