Default Rear Spoiler not working at all ('06 997)

2006 997 S
Rear Spoiler not going up or down automatically
Rear Spoiler Button on dash not doing anything (up or down) and small active light on button does not light up on when pushed.
Checked fuse (A3) and looked good but still swapped with spare but no effect or changes.
Looked at main cable in engine and looks attached.
Anything? Bueller, Bueller, Bueller ;-)

Thanks Bob

Thanks USMC_DS1 read the whole thing and comments. I don't recall having noise issues but the one item that has me hesitating in doing the step by step tear down, lube and reassemble is that the button on my dash isn't even lighting up when i press it... am i wrong to think it would light up even if spoiler didnt move? because of that i am thinking it is electrical (but i am a tech business guy so WAY out on a limb here!). So looking for the logic and insights on why no light lights up when i press the button...(or dow e know it won't if the spoiler is stuck? Also NO warning display on dash).
thanks

LOL.

I would assume he looks at the reflection of the car when he's passing a black SUV....least that's what I do.

zjay11, you should be able to push the button to move the rear spoiler up while the car is parked to verify if it's working. The LED on the spoiler button should light up. Push the button again until the LED goes out and the spoiler will retract. This is how the car should operate normally.

You may want to check the fuse box. The 15amp fuse in Row A, 3rd position, affects the spoiler. GL and let us know the outcome.

Stupid question: How do I know it automatically goes up when it should vs. the manual button?

This goes back to 2010. Duct tape, a portion of a wire hanger and a small, home made red flag. Why this isn't available as an option from the factory is hard to understand. Blends right in..

USMC_DS1 Thanks again for the reply. I did look at (looked ok) and still swapped out the A3 fuse (15) and no positive results. Button doesnt move spoiler up nor down, and button light doesnt turn on. Will check wiring on lift device.

Ah... that's right you noted as much in your original post. Sorry I missed that. Time to do some more troubleshooting. Did this happen all of a sudden... after any particular event, change to the car, etc. Give us some hints and background. How long have you owned the car before this failure occurred.

FWIW, I would suspect a faulty switch and start with that... use a simple ohm meter to verify if that's working properly. Somewhat inexpensive part, ~$20, to replace. Use the PET Catalog to source the p/n or just call Suncoastparts.com. http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessori...artscatalogue/

Beyond that you may want to start looking at wiring diagrams and some more internet searches to see if others have dealt with this issue. FWIW, AlldataDIY has a wiring diagram since you have a tech background: http://www.alldatadiy.com/alldatadiy...2111/139666221 Hopefully it's not the spoiler motor... that looks to be ~$250.

GL and let us know the outcome.

BTW, I'd strongly recommend against any old duct tape unless you know it is safe for paint. Duct tape is designed to stick directly and strongly to metal. Most of it is not safe for paint and can adhere so strongly as to risk pulling paint away and may leave residue behind. I may be overly concerned, but there is just no need to risk it.

I recommend a good quality paint-safe masking tape applied in layers to give it strength if you want to do the flag thing. Even that needs to removed promptly for best results.

BTW, a passenger can rise up high in the seat and see the wing through the back window if you ever want to confirm when it rises and settles.

StormRune makes a very good point. I always know my spoiler works when I fly by a black SUV and catch my reflection

Use a video camera to check spoiler operation.

Drive in the early morning or late afternoon at 90 degrees to the sun and check out your shadow. Doesn't need all this fancy 'flag' technology.

UPDATE: Spoiler DOES go up by itself when driving 75mph+.

So we are down to this issue: Consul Spoiler Button doesnt do anything, doesnt activate spoiler up, nor does the little light on the button light up so USMC_DS1 you are likely right, faulty switch, you added a link to the part how and where can i turn to that will show me how to access /remove/ replace the switch?
