Default AOS waterlines are for what?

The 2006-08 air oil separator was moved on top of the motor with additional 'water line (coolant)' connections.

What's the purpose of these 'water line coolant' connections, that's absent from the earlier 'AOS design'??

Thanks

Clearly, so an AOS failure can spray coolant into the intake as well as oil!

ha...

BTW the line connections to the AOS is just a small loop - coolant goes in then immediately out. I'm pretty sure it's taking in 'hot' coolant' first as one of the lines is connected to the 'hot' output of the cylinder head. So it's heating up the AOS, but why - oil flows fine on it's own.

Perhaps it's to keep the oil from the blow by in vapor form when it's pushed back into the motor? That's assuming the coolant is hot when circulating through the AOS.

If the inverse is true... the coolant is at a lower temp than the oil vapor then it would help in getting the oil back in liquid form.

I have my old one sitting around and I'll take a look at it. Looks like there is a difference between the S and non-S - at least a different part number.

Thanks - it's actual my previous 1987 Carrera with a Vram motor. The bumper is the RUF yellow bird thing.

Do you ever miss your old air cooled car?

I have another air-cooled 'turbo' that has taken it's place. So I miss it less..

In general, the air-cooled cars are fun 'go-karts' on the street. The sounds, weird ergonomics, feel, looks and strange-fun characteristics are the majority of the reasons why people are drawn to them.
