The 996 and 997 NA engines are not "bullet proof", but the TT and GT3 Mezger versions are widely accepted as bullet proof.

Proof that the NA versions are not bullet proof is provided below:

{Note, however, that the front and rear bumper covers are made of the same material as the Mezger engine, and therefore, are indeed bullet proof}

You're killing me cuda911, I was about to say that an engine is bulletproof if you shoot at it with a gun and the bullet doesn't go thru it then it is bulletproof

Absolutely nothing is bullet proof! Ask any serviceman who has served in a war.
There's always somebody with a bigger bullet, bigger gun, or bigger bomb. The closest to bullet proof is coming back in one piece with all your pieces.

Any mechanical device yet conceived or built by man will fail. It is only a matter of how and when.

The "music" doesn't begin until 4000 rpm. Then it sings!

That target-practice 911 should be a good test for Dr. ColorChip

LOL at those hitting the ground instead of the car. And yes, the fenders are obviously bullet proof

Thanks for the stake in the ground, yashagrawal. Do others agree hitting 100k for a non-tracked 997 is an achievement? I for one hope this is not the case for a car of this cost. Would hope Porsche, of all sports car makers, would have the engineering capability to build cars with power and durability (when reasonably driven and cared for).

yup if you have the first half of the 2005's just get the LN ims bearing replaced and your as good as the rest of the 997.1s. other then the pcm and maybe lack of tpms sensors the cars are virtually identical in every way that matters.

Other than the overblown IMS issue I have heard/read/seen nothing to suggest 2005s are less reliable than other 997.1. I'm at 75K miles with nothing other than routine maintenance for the almost 2 years I've owned her.

You've barely entered the torque curve at 5k.

Chances are VERY GOOD your car will achieve 100K miles with just regular maintenance and the usual wear-parts replacements...and then keep on going.
