Default System fault - visit workshop

Visit workshop? Lost in translation a little . . .

Quick check on Rennlist to lower my blood pressure . . .

Turns out rubbing early 997 headlights with a microfiber towel (I was waxing the car) generates enough static to fark with the frunk actuators and trip the front control unit, possibly farking its firmware too.

I thought the frunk opening on its own was weird.

Also early 997 actuators could have faulty seals, allowing water intrusion and same results. Some dealership tech are well aware of this - some plead the fifth and simply start replacing everything that the front controller throws a fark fault on.

So I go see my indy, mentioning the static and actuators. He looks at me like I don't know what I'm talking about as he says "never heard that one before". Sure enough he finds a fault for the actuator(s?) and resets them. No problems on the drive home.

Thank you rennlist!

This happens to me about once a month, throws a whole bunch of codes. I reset all the codes and it is fine again, for a while. I did replace the front control module, but lost my fog lights and it also caused interference on the radio, so the original module went back in.

It raises a few eye brows when you tell people that polishing the head lights causes such a system failure

I'd have to assume that Porsche "fixed" the problem by selling a heinously expensive headlight buffing cloth?

Lucky you! I think I've read it can blow the front control module too.

I understand so. In my case it's never done that, but that is why I bought a replacement module. Unfortunately the replacement didn't work correctly.

Did you replace the actuators? My car sits outside so I think I would have had problems by now if it was water intrusion, and I was rubbing the front end. Some have replaced them for the fix.

BHM - I had this happen maybe 2 weeks after I bought my car- after detailing. Our wonderful stealership fixed it under CPO and then forgot to activate the driving lights. I had to return it to get that corrected.

No issues since - I think the front control module was in the $300 range.

I didn't and it wasn't needed. The only problem I get is when I polish the car/headlights.

That's what I paid also, but couldn't get it to work right. Maybe a PIWIS is needed to program it correctly.

Good to know. Hopefully it wont be an ongoing problem.

Others mentioned turning on the ignition or starting the while working around the headlights.

I’m going to wear one of those ground wrist straps first time I work around those headlights :-)

Recently got this error message after a dead battery. Pulled the battery for two days while reconditioning and recharging it.

Attempted to reset codes through my Foxwell NT 530, but no luck. Gonna try to reset one more time before considering replacing the front control module.
