glad I got a 997.2

This has way more moving parts, loses storage to put the top behind the seats, doesn't have the back hatch and most importantly, looses the airy interior feel because of the opaque roof panel.

I don't like it.

Disagree. Then they would have ruined the 997 Targa which is the version of the roof I prefer.

I really like the 997 Targa, but to me this one is much nicer, same with the earlier Air Cooled ones. Reality is the 997 is not really a Targa because the top does not come off, it is a HUGE sunroof.

I do agree the 997 has other advantages besides looks, the biggest to me is the Hatchback and Storage, those 2 reasons alone put the Targa on my list when I was shopping.

I haven't made up my mind about the 991 Targa yet; really need to see one in person. But, the rear hatch was invaluable on my 997 Targa during our cross-country trip. It really made it easy to load the car up with a LOT of stuff we collected along the way. I'd hate to give that up for a car that is less practical unless it's more of a weekend toy.

Looks turned my head at first. I have always loved the original Targa.

However, it really isn't a "Targa" per se. Its a convertible with a glass rear window.

The Targa was designed as a rear roll bar to add chassis stiffness. I rather doubt this does that at all.

Nice engineering work, but I am not sold.

Had a chance to see it in person at the Detroit Auto Show this afternoon. It is one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen. I know you've seen the official Porsche video, but here is my quick iPhone vid:

The back glass reminds me of a corvette. Also does it have rear seats?

Makemann, that is an awesome video. I have to say I love the blue! So, it has back seats. Is there any room in the back beyond the seats? What is the top made of? I can't tell, but it looks like cloth as many have noted here.

I love the idea but i find all the textures of the roofline a little distracting. Between the cloth roof the aluminum roll bar and then the greenhouse of glass, its not visually appealing to my eyes. Anyone know how the weight of the T4S compares to a comparable Coupe and Cab?

I am curious has the price been posted yet? Will it be more than a comparable Cabrio?

That video makes it clear it is a Soft Top, I like it a lot, especially the Aluminum Hoop. I think it is a Huge win if the Price is less than or equal to the Cab.

I wonder if it would look better if they removed the glass and replaced it with speedster humps (or what ever they are called)

I own a 87 3.2 targa and this is a great modern interpretation of the original design. The previous versions of the targa (993, 997) were never true targas but had the added benefit of the hatch. This goes back to the original design cues. I don't like the look of cabs but really enjoy the feel of open top driving and the targa checks all the boxes for me. Having said that all 991s (sans the gt3) are just way too overpriced to me. Well done on the design Porsche.
