Another option for you may be to find a broker. These guys (and gals) will take your "order" and then go to auction and buy the car for you. Depending on the dealer, they may address all of the issues (curb rash, dings, etc.) before they give it to you, or not. They may charge a flat fee or percentage or something else, but either way you are likely to save money versus buying from a franchised dealer.

A local broker to Philly charges about $1,500 and Intersport in VA charges, IIRC, $3,000. I think this is a great way to go. However, you must know what you want and what you are flexible with. The broker can tell you the going Manheim prices and then you must decide what you want to pay + commission. You will then have to make up your mind pretty fast. You can't "think about it".

Hi guys, BMW 335 Cab driver here, looking at 09 911 cabs. I talked to a broker this weekend and he was about $2500 over the auction price. Not having used a broker before, I guess you are forgoing the PPI? Do you just rely on the Manheim condition codes?

I looked for a 2009 or later Targa for 6 months. Almost all the cars were at or over KBB. I realize the rarity of Targa's made it a bit different story, and I thought about using a broker, but so few targas seem to come up at auction. When you factor in transportation, plus a $2500 broker charge (which I think is high) you are close to what a reasonable dealer would make on the car, plus you can have it checked out before buying which I believe you can't at Manhiem, etc. However I did read about a more extensive inspection of the car you could have done at Manheim after purchasing. I believe I read on their site if the car needs more than $900 of work, you can get a refund. They also state they will fix many of the wear and tear and cosmetic issues for much less than a retail shop.
