Default Best Porsche book?

Wife needs to know which Porsche book is best for possible Xmas gift... any ideas?

Here's what I've found:

The Complete Book of Porsche 911: Every Model since 1964: Randy Leffingwell: 9780760339398: Amazon.com: Books The Complete Book of Porsche 911: Every Model since 1964: Randy Leffingwell: 9780760339398: Amazon.com: Books

If I could get a recommendation of 2 that might be best (first Porsche books), that'd be great.

I'd go for the Hans Mezger story --- Porsche and Me. Very interesting and even some good ol' technical stuff too.

Have the Paul Frere book. Very technical, maybe too much. Still a great read though.

Some of the books listed are a "tough" read. Would probably be a good idea for the giver to consider the giftee thoughtfully before passing along a book that perhaps doesn't fit their level of interest.

There are several really good Porsche books out there. Many of the better ones have been out there for many years, while there are several good ones arriving on the scene lately. My good friend Randy Leffingwell has written several great ones--he has very good connections with the PR and historical departments at Zuffenhausen, so you can learn a lot of new things in his books.

In particular, I like his "Porsche 911 Perfection by Design" (good coffee table book), and then Porsche Sixty Years (I like because my car is in it!) and also Porsche 911 Buyer's Guide: 2nd Edition (also favorite of mine since my car is in it!)

Ingo Seiff wrote a really super book called "Porsche Portrait of a Legend" It's another massive coffee table book.

It all depends upon whether you like to see pictures of more current models or want to know the real history of Porsche.

- Hans Mezger story --- Porsche and Me
- Porsche 911 Perfection by Design
- Porsche 911 Story 8th Edition (Last edition written by Paul Frere)

I recommend the above three Porsche books.

Another book worth mentioning is "911 x 911". It's newly published by the Porsche Museum.

I have the Leffingwell one (the first one on your list). I enjoyed reading it. Has some great info. Since I don't have the others, I can't compare it, but any Porsche aficionado would like the Leffingwell one.

What about Porsche: Excellence Was Expected: The Comprehensive History of the Company, its Cars and its Racing Heritage - 2008 Update http://amzn.com/0837602351 It's been on my Amazon wish list for a while. Seems favorably reviewed and its packaging would make a nice gift.

Thanks guys, Randy Leffingwell has a few books on Porsche. Quite confusing actually he has Porsche 50yrs, 60yrs, perfection by design, Complete book of 911, etc...

I probably ask for one of the Randy Leffingwell books, and leave it to her to pick.

You'll do well with Randy's books. He's a terrific photographer and a great writer. Here he is shooting my car for a couple of his books.

An idea, for people's reference, can folks start posting the table of contents of each of their Porsche book here? Like take a pic and post here?

That'd greatly helpful to all looking up Porsche books.

There is no question that this is the definitive book (books, actually) on Porsche. A bit expensive at almost $200, but worth it IMO.

Hi, new here and thought I'd bump this thread instead of creating a new one.

I'm also interested in a 911 book, just for myself, I want to know technical specifications of the engines, something that's reliable, you can get most of the information on the internet for bhp, weight, but torque figures compression ratios, ect, are all over the place.

If anyone has one of these books can verify the type of information in them, that'd be fantastic, very hard to find for me locally (Vic, Australia).
