Default pse vs. awe question

What are your thoughts on this setup:

I just bought some used exhaust parts from a member here on RL.
AWE headers and mufflers, with fabspeed 200 cell cats.

Heres my question:

Should I keep the PSE and install just the cats and header,
or go for it and install everything?

Are there any weight savings with the the AWE mufflers?
are there any power gains AWE mufflers vs. PSE?

Thanks for the help everyone!

It sounds as if you have a 997.1. If that's the case the headers and cats with the stock PSE might be the way to go. It all depends on how loud you want the exhaust. To begin with a lot of people seem to think the 997.1 has a better sound than the 997.2.

The headers wont change the sound of the car a huge amount, mainly just performance. With the PSE activated you will essentially be running a side muffler bypass (Some exhaust gases will still bypass the valves and go through the muffler) and sportcats. Why not throw on the headers and the sportcats and see what you think?

You can only do headers while keeping PSE, try that and if you want more performance or sound, go full AWE.

If he has a 997.1 he can run the sportcats with PSE.

The sport cats are the only component in the mix that might add a little power gain, as well as more throaty sound. I loved the combo of headers, sport cats and PSE on my Targa. The added noise of the cats could be tamed with the quiet setting on the PSE, but would really bark nicely in loud mode. I doubt the headers do anything but provide psychological gains, but are probably worth putting on. Plus, they look nicer whenever you happen to be under the car LOL.

Oh sorry, absolutely, missed that he also got 200CEL cats.

PS. Do those CATS pass emission tests?

Sometimes, not always (at least in California). I've been told if you get them well heated up prior to test, they often pass. Probably depends on how each jurisdiction tests.

Thx guys.

I've decided to start with the headers and cats. I'll be keeping the PSE.

There may be a nice set of AWE mufflers up for grabs here next week!

Thanks for the help.

Let us know if you pass emission tests, if it's conducted in Utah.
