A twist on the Gundo mod
Decided to add a bit more sound to the 997.2 4S. The Sharkwerks center delete is on the car, so the next was either the Tubi or the Gundo. Went to our local custom shop and he has had great results from using the second outlet on the stock exhaust... below is a progress picture. Will pick up tomorrow.

Have always wondered if that could be done. Was never too sure what the plugged hole was for. Anxious to see the finished product. The added pipe appears to be a perfect fit and a good deal more eligant than some of the hacks I have seen. Do you anticipate any clearance issues on the re-install ? Given the less restictive shape of the third pipe it should flow better than the shorter sharp angled Gundo hack. Got to do a sound bit when you're done.

With the highly technical "fist test" on the uninstall there is plenty of room for this to work. I also think the flow will be much better too, would love to see a cutaway of the stock can to see what is in there...
Sound clip will be posted when done.

+1 on the cutaway as it might explain why what appears to be a plugged hole is there.

Fister D is also a great option. There's a thread about this on the 996 board right now. Both mods will improve sound. I've got the Fister mod done on my mufflers and they sound great.

That answers that question. Dare I use up another wish... what does the area under the plugged hole look like ? I'm thinking the plug is flush on the inside and nothing extends to the baffle. Removing the plug and adding the pipe should add a different sound to the exhaust as the sound going into the second pipe is being filtered by the baffle material before it exits the car. But the area under the plug doesn't extent into the main cavity of the muffler where the engine exhaust first exits the engine. The new sound could be deeper, tinny or maybe a bit hollow. This project is getting more and more interesting.

The gundo hack, like PSE, allows some or most the exhaust to exit the muffler without entering the third chamber in the center of the muffler. The Fister mod partially bypasses the entire muffler by welding a bypass pipe between the muffler inlet and outlet. Both mods produce a very nice sound.

Here is an update:
Picked up the exhausts today, I think the .2 muffler is different from the blurry picture above (997.1) because the fabricator said that there was not a pipe behind the formed top hole.
The work was done by Hanksville Hot Rods just south of Denver, he is a Porsche Club member does tech inspections for the DE's and is an all around super nice guy. Does fabulous work. http://www.hanksvillehotrods.com/ The new pipe is 2" 304 stainless w/ stainless tig weld, very clean.
He did set up a template of the pipes and the cutouts, he has it for both the 997.1 and 997.2 exhaust. It will save time and money for the next guy....
It is installed, took me an hour after work, the 997.2 is an easy muffler removal, even the third, top, bolt on the cat is easy to get at with a 12" extension and a universal on the end of a short socket, you can reach it from the exhaust opening in the bumper.
Here are the pics of the work: (will post sound tomorrow).

You have us all biting our nails! If this mod sounds as good as it looks, I will be giving your man a call! Let us know if there is any droning and how they sound at normal speeds.
