CNN: "Chevrolet Corvette, finally a legit Porsche killer from Detroit"
I noticed this article on CNN this morning.. IMO I would never compare my 997.2 to a Vette, but for a 455hp v8 it sure looks impressive.

I saw the same article, and horsepower aside, I have never been a Vette guy and never will be. There is still something to be said about owning the car of my dreams, the car that has set the sport car standard for everyone else to chase. I'll take my 997.2.S anyday.

In the C&D article, the compared Porsche was a base Carrera. I believe a 991S with a Power Kit and PDCC would be more in line when comparing to the new C7

There is always a 911 vs vette comparison. I dont know why, I didnt cross shop those two. I dont mind vettes but not for me. There will inevitably be someone who votes the vette better for now but the new will wear off and those seats will wear on your ***. In the end the 911 will continue to be the keeper.

Unfortunately VW is pushing their customers into Vette territory with their latest decisions and shortcomings : raising prices, dropping the manual transmission on GT/Turbo cars, reliability issues-coolant lines,CLs,IMS etc, poor customer assistance(see Lozzy's thread) etc. I don't want to buy a piece of crap Vette, but I've started seriously considering it lately....for the money...

And, what do you guess that would cost compared to the Corvette? Or maybe that is your point, that you would need a 130,000+ 991 to compete with the C7?

That's what I was thinking. That configuration 991 is expensive. Listen I'd rather have a Porsche, but the C7 looks interesting. I think the new vette looks great, apart perhaps from the rear end. I'll definitely take a look..

I thought the thread/marketing was about the vette being a Porsche killer not the sticker price. In the same article I mentioned they used the Jaguar XK-R. Why did they not use the base model XK? If it was a "bang for buck" contest than I would understand the comparisons. My point is that for a performance comparison, an S with the goods would be more in line to compare with a vette.
