What's with all this drivel. The best looking 911 of all time is the 993, particularly the C2S, C4S, and TT. If you've never hand washed one, you can't appreciate the curves and details. The edges of the fender around the wheel wells are radiused. I've never seen any car with that subtle item. The only fault were the small black warts on the front bumper of US cars.

Sorry guys, you're right. "Too soon"

Having owned two IMS Porsches ('03 996, '08 987S), I figure I've earned the right to talk a little trash about that era of engineering excellence.

PS. I think the .1 of the 996 was prettier than the .2, and I think the .1 of the 997 is better looking than the .2. I think Porsche does their best and purest design work on the "original", and then tells Franz to "update the look" on the .2 in a way that sometimes looses a bit of the purity of the original.

I prefer my lowly 997.1--even in black and white--over a 997.2!

I happen to think that the 997.1 is very beautiful and classic looking but could use a small upgrade. This is why I purchased the LED fog lamp kit for the front. As far as the rear goes, I am buying the "All Red" tails as I am not keen on the aftermarket rear LED's.

I like the .2 rear from the factory so if I did a .2 conversion in the rear, I would have to purchase the bumper as well. (aka I am not spending all of that when I love the look of the .1)

I like the warm glow of incandescent light bulbs. A few months ago I bought the LED conversion kit and after a few days I converted it back to the original. The perfect combination for me is HID headlights and incandescent bulbs all around. You may call me spoiled but I have more then one car to drive. I drive on daily basis my 2008 Mercedes C63 AMG, 2005 Honda S2000, 2008 Porsche Carrera S, and I also have 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo which is an ongoing project. The 977 is nice, but it is no match for C63AMG - 450hp 6.2l V8, you can do burnouts and drifts and drags all day long! It is way much faster then 997 and as a bonus you get the glorious big V8 sound - all the hooligan growl, backfiring and brush big V8 noise stock! The S 2000 is weak on power but you can rev it up and if you stay between 6000 - 8000 RPMs it is reasonably fast and as a bonus you get Formula 1 noise which is nice. My 997 on the other hand is not the fastest, but it looks so cute I decided to keep it. I have not been diving it lately b/c I dislike the noise - constant tire drone/haul with all the resonance at sustained highway speeds if you have to drive it for more then an hour, rubbery and vague cable shifter when compared to S2000, relative lack of power when compared to C63AMG, but it looks so cute I still have it. Anyhow my next project is SSK and soundproofing my 997. I can stick wit all the other 997 incongruencies like the transmission, ignition key on the wrong side etc. I still have difficult time to accept the very weak interior in an upscale sporty and expensive car - all the plastic and even leather pieces look bad with all the scratches after a few months of use, but again - it looks so cute...Going back to the lights, it was BMW which introduced "angel eyes" about 15 years ago and it was cool. Next it was audi which introduced LED stripes/DRLs and it was cool at the beginning. Now you can see LED DRs on Honda Civics, Kias and occasionally aftermarket LEDs on beat-up pick-up tuck. Soo cheap...
I don't think I've ever heard the 997 referred to as being 'cute'. Makes me think I need another 50 hp in mine! I think the back end/lights look better in the .1 and even more so comparing the general size to the 991.

If you're really going for a "pretty" 911 (whatever that means) the belle of the ball is the wide hipped 993.

Just one man's opinion on the relative looks of the various 911s I've owned or driven thru the years.

It's all good.....

You're absolutely right that most 997 owners can't tell the difference. Just us obsessives

But I also have one of those "cute" or "pretty" 993's

And the 997.1 is the best looking 997 for sure

Not an owner yet. 997.2 all the way...though they're both pretty cars.

beauty is more than skin deep... is that how the saying goes? well i like the front of the 997.1 but as the saying goes...997.2 beauty goes way way more deeper. and as they age 997.2 will be like wine.

Nobody has really broken it down this way yet so allow me.......

IT DEPENDS ON THE MODEL.

.1 vs: .2 is totally model dependant. Aerokit cars the nod goes to the .1......but C4S with the light bar across the back goes to the .2.....the interior obv goes to the .2 on most (all) but the .1 GT3 was available with a sunroof (sorta cool for a GT car) and the .2's arent available with that option. The RS model is - in my mind - a clear choice to the .1. I love the style and look of the .1 RS so much and feel the .2 RS is not as rare/raw/special. Again, all my opinions but based upon lots of looking

For "regular cars" like C2's and C2S's.....i would think it would again come down to the options ordered too. I had the pleasure of owning a BOMBED OUT 997.1 C2S Aerokit car that had everything. To me, it rocks the socks off a similarly equipped 997.2.....but again, thats just me.

LED's seem to come up a lot. To me, not THAT big of a deal. they are cool - but they arent deal breakers for me either way. On an Audi R8 they are sick --- and on the 991 they look great --- but on 911's they dont make or break the style of the car for me.

Summary --- 997.1 with the slight edge because it was a MASSIVE leap ahead of what the 911 looked like prior. 997.2 was "just" an update and while nice - didnt ruin the .1's for me.

Adios!
