Sorry to see and hear your boom story.
I have two trends of thought here.

1st. spend the money at Porsche, new engine. If you are going to get any money back from your claim, it is best done through the manufacturer. But this is an expensive step, and 330% more expensive. Would your claim be paid back through a private repair shop?

2nd screw the manufacturer. Don't reward them with your good money. 1,600 pounds for explorative surgery? I could have done it for free. While I do slightly understand needing to spend some money to see if would be covered by goodwill from porsche. What is the shot rate in london? At 1oo pounds an hour that is 16 hours, or two days? In Canada I would say "WTF". Insert appropriate english isim "here".
That is a lot of exploratory time. Find a good shop with a used or rebuilt engine. I'm sure you can find an engine out of a wreck on your english KIJIJIJIJI . Get the car out of there you have spent enough money with them.

Let this also be lesson to the rest of us. Don't give the dealer "carte blanche" for a diagnostic. Give them a budget! 3 hours ie.

I'm confused. You have approximately $2500 worth of "diagnosis?" To find a hole in the power head that I can stick my hand in? Unless there is FAR more to this story I would not even CONSIDER paying such an outlandish bill.

Update

Finally received my car back on Friday. Bill was £6140. It would have been £1000 cheaper but due to the state of the engine block they were unable to salvage anything (Usually £1k trade in / swop).

Car feels tight and newer. Sounds gorgeous and drives smoother. Ticks over at 800rpm which is a little low. They can adjust but recommended I stick with this setting. The engine light is ON. I am told this is being caused by the "Lambda Sensors" in the exhaust. Apparently there was a lot of debris in the exhaust and it "may" clear itself over the next few miles. The engine is guaranteed for 6 months so they tell me not to worry.

An oil change is due at 1000 miles. If the engine light is still on, I will have to replace these sensors at the same time. (Not sure of the cost)

Overall I am happy and impressed with Globalengines. They kept me well informed and delivered the car to my door.

I will post the next update at 500 miles when I will be allowed to open her up and make a proper before / after comparison.

500 miles reached - took it to 120mph this morning - big smile lit up my face - my baby is back! Sounds feels and drives beautifully.

No complaints so far - will update once more at 1000 miles after the oil change.

Good for you!! A lot of heartache and $$$$$ but the smile on your face helps make the rest look smaller in the rear view mirror!

Good Luck to you and keep us posted! A pictire'd be nice!

Considering the missing service book/records I suspect that your car might have been clocked (odometer rollback). Have you checked the engine and air bag operating hours? Any other signs that mileage might be higher than indicated on odometer?

Hope all works out.

Regards,

CF

Glad the car is fixed!

BTW, is that GREEN coolant in OP's last photo?? Because they sure don't fill 'em up with that stuff at the factory...

6100 pounds or about 10k U.S. is not too bad. I think it would be quite a bit more here in the U.S. Enjoy.
