Default 997 C2S Water Pump and Coolant Procedure with Pics

Over the weekend I completed my first water pump and coolant replacement on my 997. I've done a write-up of the procedure that I think may be helpful for the newbie mechanic like me. Rennlist has graciously agreed to host the pdf of the write-up on their server. To assist potential readers in deciding whether or not to download the pdf, below is the first portion of the introductory chapter and the table of contents. The pdf is 9MB in size. If you wish to download the pdf, click the link at the bottom of this post to begin the download.

"Following the completion of my first water pump and coolant procedure on my 997 I decided to do this write-up so that I could use it the next time I do the job (hopefully not for several years). This write-up is, indeed, newbie rated and, consequently, every step is presented in great detail and the document is picture intensive. In doing my research for this procedure, I drew from a number of sources including less detailed write-ups and posts on the internet (e.g., Rennlist, Renntech, http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site_3/F...nt_System.html). While these were very helpful, I would have liked a newbie-rated write-up. So, I have decided to post my notes from the procedure in case it will be of benefit to others."

Well done!!! This takes the DIY to the next level. Great pdf to keep in your Porsche Stuff file. I wish I would have done some of the things you did when I replaced my water pump.

Fantastic tutorial. I love the fact that you packaged it as a PDF. Printing is perfect.
Now, I wish I had all the tools you used....lift...etc.

Doug, excellent write-up and 127 pages to boot. This will be going up on the DIY sticky. Keep these coming brother.

Wow, that write up must have taken some significant effort, nevermind the actual work.

Thanks for such an incredible contribution to the DIY community

I benefit greatly from this forum. It's gratifying to know that I can do something to give back.

@Yves: Yes, the right tools help a lot. The lift is particularly handy. Sunday morning I had to wait for the stores to open so I could go and get an 18mm deep socket; had never needed one before this procedure.

@USMC: You too

Thank you for this crazy detailed DIY! I used it this weekend to replace my water pump. I did it as preventative maintenance on my 06' S with almost 25k miles. Turns out, my original pump still looked and functioned just like the new one I replaced it with. Ah well, relatively cheap insurance in the long run.

Much appreciated. Great things about these DIY's isn't just the instructions but also the list of tools needed. I for one hate getting into a project and finding out I don't have the right tools. Correct tools = easier project.
