Good choice. I love my Panamera.

As for the 991 getting softer... well, that's the market. These cars are getting stupid expensive, and by the time most of us can afford a new Porsche, we're getting along in years and comfort (or reduction in discomfort) becomes a higher priority.

I test drove an Audi R8 last week. It was sweet. It rides better, is quieter, has less wind noise and less road noise than the 997. It also has less soul and less character than the 997. It's also nearly twice the price.

If it were the same price as my 997, I'd likely have the Audi. As it is, no way am I parting with my Porsche.

Now, if I were buying new, and comparing a 911 C4S with the R8, then it might be a tougher choice. But that's a different thread...

The OP's expectations of the 911 was that it would be better in every way. Then he arguably goes onto describe it to be better in every way, less the "disconnection" in regards to driving feel.

I don't find it surprising that this being the 997 forum people will receive the message with a negative undertone, but everything he said was basically 991 > 997. I haven't driven the 991 but driving a 997 C4 vs a C2 will give you that exact same feeling of disconnect. Just pointing this out!
I don't want to get into a C4 vs. C2 argument, but dude, have you driven both? I have, and both 997s in 2WD or AWD are not "disconnected"; the C4 definitely not more so than the C2. While the steering feel is different, disconnected in comparison it's not. Sorry for the reality check.

Which is interesting since now with the electronic steering in the 991 people are reporting steering to feel better in the C4.

The 991 is to the 997
what the 996 was to the 993.

Watch in 10 years how the 997 becomes the 911 enthusiasts run to own.

'sound symposer'
"the manual 991 is no longer a true manual imo, it's the pdk trans with a manual input (literally)... it has a fake feel to it... not mechanical but assisted"

I love my 2006 coupe 6 speed w/ sport seats and Porsche sport exhaust it only has 23K on it - virtually new
I have not driven the new 991 but in all the magazine reviews I saw no mention of this info on the new models' exhaust and 7 speed stick . Is the 991s' exhaust sound piped in like recent BMW's via the cars speakers or through a sound tube connected to the passanger compartment ? The 7 speed is not a true manual - is the clutch operated electronically like the new electric steering ? Interesting info I would be interested in learning more about are there any pictures / drawings available on line ? I plan to keep my 997 as a weekend pure sports car and drive our 2013 Audi A4 6 speed as a comfortable daily driver . Thank you for the info All Best Russ DeJulio Pittsburgh,PA

I believe I read the same thing about the sound coming into the cabin. Jaguar and a few others are doing the same thing. Not something I'd want with my car...

Default Sound symposer... the answer to question nobody asked?

I'm not sure what the reason for creating this but it MAY be to keep outside environment noise to a minimum yet allow the driver to be connected to the engine noise. Without out it would we keep the revs high to hear the engine and increase emissions? Note sure. Can't see how it affects the environment otherwise.

makes sense when you own it..the car is very sound proof.. which is nice for DD but the tube opens and allows the intake noise in..

i clogged my hole.. and changed the exhaust.. you could still hear it slightly but much louder outside than in.

Yeah I kind of get it now. Why make the damn thing so loud for everyone *except* the occupants? Makes sense the other way around, though I can see how it tweaks us purists a little bit...

Agreed, but only the limited edition ones like GT3, there were just too many 997s sold to be as valuable as 993.

To me, 991 GT3 is actually the farthest away from the original. No manual, No Metzger, plush everything, heaps of electronics, HEAVIER than Carrera and older gen GT3, 4-wheel steering, and so on... if you compared the changes from 997 Carrera to 991 Carrera it's not as drastic as it is from 997 GT3 to 991 GT3! Basically, 997 GT3 was a de-tuned, streetable Cup car, while 991 GT3 is a sportier, faster 991 Carrera, completely different concepts!

Quick Reply: Finally drove 991. Shocked.
