20k penny wise pound stupid? Seeking Purchase Help..
Which would you choose?
Assume same features.
1. $62900 (listed) 2008 S 7500 miles, no warranty
2. $79300 (listed) 2012 S 10500 miles, 5 year warranty
Both with dealers, both 6 speed, same color and other options, prob can talk each down 1 or 2 k, but the 08 has been there a while so prob looking at 20 k difference. Thinking the 08 may be $58 and the 12 $78.
Thanks!

Amazing, I looked at a 2008 Carrera S with 6,300 miles listed at 62k back in 2009 (Porsche of Tysons Corner).
Have you test driven the 2012 DFI vs. the 2008? I've heard the DFI is a lot more responsive..

I think you can find a quality warranty for the 08 for $3-5k. So you're down to a $15k difference between a '08 997.1 and '12 997.2. Both will be very fun to drive.

2012 all day long, not even close IMO
I would not buy a Porsche from a Dealer that did not qualify for a CPO. Buy from an enthusiast if you do not want CPO, plenty go up for sale here, actually a few really nice ones for sale right now.

He probably means it's with a non-Porsche dealer. To the OP......why does it have to be between an -08 and a -12? You can narrow the price gap to various degrees with an-09, -10 or -11 and still get a .2 car which is much improved over the .1 imo.

Normally I would prefer to save $20K and put it towards mods whenever I can but in this case... the '08 doesn't have enough miles to get past the infant mortality period - "SIDS". Without a warranty you'll be picking up the bill on all issues on a car that has not proven itself. Still viable if you secure a 3rd party warranty as someone has mentioned. But you still need to do some extensive homework on it. Does it have a service history, how did the BMW dealer acquire it(auction or trade-in), how does it drive, Carfax, DME reports, etc... Definitely get a PPI from a reputable Porsche Indy in your area. BTW, don't assume that the '12 is clean either... do your homework there as well. The '12 just has the benefit of a warranty which helps with some things.
