Front trunk won't open when hot
Seems the hood latch mechanism is getting week. 2006 997S with 97K miles. When the car is left in the sun on a hot day the hood release fails until it cools off. I can hear a slight motorized release but not enough to pop the truck. As if the extra heat is creating additional resistance to prevent the completion of the cycle to open. Any experience with this? Should I replace the latch or is there may be a solenoid that could be the issue?
TIA

Battery is good. I'll take it apart and see if it is all one unit with latch and solenoid. Seems to be the most likely part with the heat. Works fine when cool but probably on the way out soon.

If its the same as a 996, DIY in about 5-10 minutes. I replaced mine 6 months ago. IIRc, cost about $65-70 for the part.

I had identically the same issue on my Boxster. Wouldn't open when hot, but opened when cold.
It was the solenoid in the frunk. In the Boxster it was a very simple (less than 30 min) DIY job.
I would be very surprised if Porsche had changed that part at all between 986/996/997

My Turn
Knows its about a year since this thread was active but wondered if "Devil Boy" resolved the issue?
I live in Dubai in 100-130 degrees heat all summer and this summer is time for my "Frunk" not to work when the car is hot/has been sitting out in the sun. The 4 previous summers no issue. Garage it and let it cool down for a couple hours hit the switch and pop, she opens perfectly. If the
My car is a 2004 996 C4S with 33k miles on the clock. I don"t understand why the solenoid should fail only when hot?? Doubt it is the tolerances changing due to the heat as it is the same every year previously without incidence.
Bentley Manual is saying remove the bumper but "2K3TTMIA" mentioned 5-10 minute DYI, is it necessary to drop the bumper?
Anyway, any wisdom would be most appreciated.

Sorry, I actually didn't have this problem. I was just commenting on how hot my exterior gets sitting out in the Arizona summer sun.
The symptoms mentioned in this thread do seem to point to a solenoid issue though. Maybe Bigwave can comment on if his got fixed.

Thanks for the feedback Bigwave and Devil Boy. Put the charger on the battery and sourced the solenoid here, of course almost 60% higher then the US price and will do the necessary probably next weekend.
Much appreciated,
