Default 997.2 PDK vs. 997.1 manual ???

Interior options are comparable for both cars.

2008 Carrera 911 (CPO till 5/2014)
Black/sand beige
PASM
Sport Chrono
XM Radio
28,XXX miles
No paint/bodywork, well maintained, no issues. My current mistress.

OR

2010 Carrera 911 (with remaining original warranty)
Silver/black
PDK
No other fancy options
7,xxx miles
No paint/bodywork (checked with paint meter) but involved in minor accident (bumper). Car fax documented. Needs front and rear bumper reconditioning and a minor dent (dent wizard) at expense of dealer.

I work in NYC metro area and I am beginning to get annoyed at driving a stick in traffic which is why I am considering PDK with DFI engine and with little to no likelihood of IMS failure.

If price is not a factor, which would you choose?

+ 911. But it sounds like you're already leaning towards the PDK due to stop-n-go traffic.

Not completely convinced with PDK since I also have a DD/beater car. I think it's mostly due to the newer engine and low miles.

hard decision, the 997 manual is easy to drive.

i went from 997.1 manual, to 997.2 pdk, then to 991 pdk and finally realized what i was missing and went back to 997TT manual..

the manual is kinda a bitch in heavy traffic but otherwise the manual makes you part of the car versus just along for the ride.

I was a 6 speeder dyed in the wool manual lover....until I drove the pdk in my current 09. The thing is just a pleasure to drive. And the numbers of sales prove that most people want the PDK, and its a upcharge on a used car where the tip used to be a deduction. You can drive it manually if you like from
the steering wheel or the stick in the center console.
But without the Chrono sport package it might not be worth ie. The PDK is a Manual transmission that is shifted automatically, which makes it fun to drive. And in traffic, and I dont like in NY but I do have to go down the 405 in Los Angeles every month or so and I think that rivals any traffic you have in NY and you just put it in drive and leave it alone! After drive the heavy clutched GT3 down that road the PDK is a pleasure.

If you like both cars and price is no object, I would choose newer with lower miles every time.

Too very different cars... people will be biased here, recommending one or the other. I like manual and the more engaging 997.1, but some might really value PDK easy shift in traffic? or DFI engine?
  • Do you like Sand Beige interior? Some love, some hate it... that could seal the deal for some.
  • Do you like PDK/Auto fast shifting? or you like to engage the gear yourself? that could also seal the deal...
  • Do you like Black or silver?
  • How much value do you put into electronics, Nav (where 997.2 is better)?
  • How much you like a better engine/exhaust tone (997.1 better)?

Answer the above questions, and your car will be chosen!

I'd skip the 08 and go with the 10. Nicer interior and no IMS issues.

If the 997.2 is in your price range then I would rule out the 997.1 altogether. Make the decision between manual vs. PDk because there are many improvements in the .2 model that kind of make it an apples to oranges comparison between these two cars. I have the 997.1 and can tell you that the IMS issue, although less likely with the revised bearing, is still always in the back of my mind. I change oil frequently and have it analyzed to help me sleep at night. PASM is supposedly improved as well.

Personally, I prefer manual but I don't drive my car daily and don't have to deal with traffic. I'm also not concerned with the performance gains it offers. That's just me and that might change as my addiction to DE events continues to grow.

Would the Carfax report/bumper repair/minor ding repair deter anyone from choosing the car?

I'm still partial to my 08 but I worry about IMS. I like the LED lights and no IMS issues

What's the difference between PDK v. PDK with sport chrono?

The sport chrono releases a whole new car, more horse power, crisper shifting and all kinds of goodies,
stiffer suspension etc etc. You will have to read further because the differences are quite lengthy.
