Default Stingray or Viper?

Thinking one of these would be a nice addition. Impressive looks and specs, but a whopping $50,000 price difference! Thoughts??

i had deposit on both cars and took my money back.

stingray=WAYYY oversold, they sold so many damn cars you'll see them everywhere.. huge depreciation unless you order it full base

Viper= was cool 24 months ago when announced but them parading around for funding for their venture left the car just waiting to come out, finally they released 2 batches and it's cool but they have already released 2 new variants which mean whatever you order will be old news by the time you actually get it.

both great cars for the "american" name... quality interiors and great build quality.. but they still have the american "we'll change it every 6 months so your cr is worth **** but we can sell more and more and more..... they need to develop a car that retains value and demand versus spamming the country with cars.

Yah that's my only real worry...production numbers..

50k is a bargain for a car like the Stingray, but still way out of reach for most buyers. I can't imagine seeing a whole lot for at least 4 years once the used market is full of them.

It's going to boil down to some test drives I think.

whoh the new Stingray's are nutty.....
some nice aftermarket wheels and maybe a few other show mods would really set help
set it off too.....
I'd pass on the Viper just because of the way they look......

good luck with the hunt!!! that's part of the fun!

with financing now adays, i'm sure every cocky gentleman who makes 25-30k a year will have one with ease... and then put it into a wall and roll the debt into the next one and get GAP insurance and on goes the cycle.

i saw a kia dealership local advertising "any car on the lot, any credit, for only $27 a day"..

thats 800$ a month!!!

50k for a new Vette is a bargain. Heck, GTI's are in the low 30s these days. It is a bargain, but I will never ever own one!

I know it shares the same body as a $22k car, but with 662hp the Shelby GT500 looks impressive for the money.

The Shelby is an awesome car, I owned a more crude version (2008) modified to 720hp with coilovers and it was an absolute rocket up to 190mph and was much more comfortable at 140mph than it was at 50mph.

I've got the Boss 302 Laguna Seca in the garage now and love it. Not getting rid of the 911, and don't think I could part with the Boss either but want to see how good the Vette and Viper really are...

Yah I suppose you're right just about anyone could pick up a debt and get one. I'll be looking at the production numbers, if it's well over 10,000 per year I'll probably pass...

I would go with the Viper over the Vette, if I got a Vette it would not be the base model, I thought I read the upgraded model (Not sure what they are calling it for the New Model) is like $75K.

If you want a Corvette with low production #'s, get a C6 Z06.
The last few years of production, they didn't sell.
The car is a beast, and you can go straight from the street to the track, and kick some serious *** with it.
Find a later car with a warranty for less than a new base model, and protect yourself from the exhaust valve issue.

I saw the new Viper at Barrett Jackson, and it is very nice. They finally put a decent interior in it. I've never driven a viper, but my guess is it's on a par with a Z06.

Hertz upgraded me to a 60th anniversary convt vette 2 months ago. For a rental I felt like I had won the lotto but as a sports car I was learning to appreciate how I've been spoiled by my Carrera. In comparison, the vette seemed sluggish - that momentary hesitation between the brain/foot saying go and the car actually accelerating. The plastic interior left much to be desired. I'm sure there must be a full leather version but it was a big disappointment to find a "full plastic" interior on the 60th anniversary model. On the plus side... the seats were leather. I had a few of my co-workers test drive the car over... to see what they thought of it and as a sounding board for my own Porsche biased perceptions. They all seem to hold a similar reaction to the car... initial excitement in that it was a vette, followed by disappointment in the sluggish performance and then comments re the GM interior. Then we'd talk about the new 7th generation Sting Ray, how it was just around the corner, should be better, and the specs looked great on paper. I couldn't help but think during those discussions... GM had 60 years and six generations to get it right. I kept thinking what makes this next generation any different. Don't think I'll be waiting at the Chevy dealership for a test drive... maybe Hertz will fill that point of curiosity again.

No surprise there really, especially for you coming from a 911 i'm pretty sure it's nearly impossible to replicate the feedback and response we experience from these.

If money was not an issue then Viper hands down, Viper GTS actually (120k). 75K for the loaded Vette is not so enticing. 50k for a base or a slighly used loaded one is appealing to me.

I'll probably wait and let the hype and hysteria settle, and the prices to fall, and if I still like them then maybe give it a shot.

Got plenty of car to learn in the meantime...
