Exhaust which one?

On my 997.1 S, the exhaust note is leaving me a bit underwhelmed. Been scouring these forms and I don't think I have the PSE as the pipes are of same size. From what I have read the PSE sounds great but there is no real performance improvement, just sound. Would prefer some performance improvement as well and I also hold an aftermarket warranty that I would hate being voided because of the installation of some non approved part.

What are my options? Budget is around $2k. What other 3rd party exhausts would you recommend?
Thanks in advance for any assistance in the matter.

don't let anyone tell you that their exhaust by itself will net you a power gain....at least one you can feel. You wont even notice less than 5 hp. If your plan is to do exhaust, high flow cats, cold air intake and a tune then maybe its worth spending on a exhaust system. IMHO go with the gundo hack or just a set of high flow muffler, you will love it.

We have two options for the 997.1

1) Sport Muffflers

2) Sport Mufflers with Sound Valves

Both are well under your 2K budget. You can PM me for special Rennlist spring pricing...

@SexOnWheels, that is a straight up no bull tip that I welcome. Thanks much. On the Gundo hack, the main thing I am worried about is would it void an after market warranty? I know I sound paranoid but a large failure like IMS and hack in place with the warranty folks saying 'ta ta' is scary. That's why I was looking at some option that would not be a hack but legit. Thanks again for your insight.

I will share a little something with you, I have worked at a ford dealer for 20 years and am well versed in warranty as well as the technical side,I'm a mechanic by trade but have been in service management for 10 years. with ford at least a modification such as changing the exhaust will not in itself void the warranty. For example if you are to change the mufflers or do the hack and the engine fails the dealership would be obligated to prove how that modification caused the engine failure. Another example would say you install a custom tune which alters that factory rev limiter and increase redline by 1500 rpm, then you go out and over rev it and bend a connecting rod, the failure would be a result of a modificiction and would not be covered. Porsche sport exhaust and the gundo hack are virtually the same thing it essentially ties the inlet of the muffler directly to the outlet, this allows some of the exhaust to bypass the muffler......someon try and explain to me how that could cause a engine problem or any other for that matter , I dare you. Don't be afraid of the dealer....or find one with a little more common sense. do the hack it sounds awesome

I have the Gundo hack and before I got the work done I contacted my dealer. They sad no problem it would not void the warranty because you are only dealing with the muffler. If I would put in a full system that eliminated or changed the cats that would cause an error code this could be a problem. You will like the 2 inch gundo bypass, a little loud versus stock but you will not regret.

Thanks guys for the Gundo and warranty details. I guess I'll start with the Gundo and then see my options moving ahead on upgrades. Would my dealer be able to get me Gundofied?

Need more $$$$$
Tubi - very nice bits, flow better, very pretty
PSE - very nice bits, flow better than stock
Cargraphic -very nice too (installed in my ride), flow better too
Gundo is cheap but don't flow better
Fabspeed - no experience
Europipe don't make 997 exhausts any more....
What else?

IMO, spending more than $2k for exhaust is a lot of money for mainly an aesthetic improvement. As someone else pointed out, any power gain is either unlikely or unnoticeable (other than in your head), so the main benefit is the sound improvement. I agree with others that the Gundo hack is the best bang for the buck. I like the PSE so I have the option to have loud or quiet, but it will cost more. Don't worry about warranty.

I'm in this same quandary. I like the idea of a switchable PSE, but it's over $3k installed by the dealer. Gundo hack looks great, except I live in a quiet neighborhood full of Prius/Volt types and would like keep a low profile.

A switchable Gundo would be perfect for me!

Try to find a used Tubi. I think most will agree it beats the Gundo in every sound category and it's also switchable in its own way. Keep it below 3,000rpm and it's almost stock quiet. Above that is a different story. I sold the Tubi I took off my -06 for just over $1,000 on Ebay.

+1 on the 2 inch Gundo. It sounds great, no drone, and under low throttle it is tame. mash the gas any you get a nice low grunting exhaust. Cold starts in the garage are louder than after everything warms up. I don't regret the change at all.

I've had Fabspeed and Tubi and honestly the Fabspeed not only sounded better but was better built. Tubi welds on the brackets were falling apart. I sold my Tubi to Okbarnett and he re-welded and ended up selling the Tubi too.

I currently have FVD (M&M) on my GTS. Build is great and it does offer a performance gain at higher RPM. I have the same exhaust the Grand Am Rolex GS Porsches used. It's really loud but sounds exotic. However if this was only a street car I'd get a different M&M system.
