Default Your thoughts: Porsche cloth interior option?

While I've always appreciated the look, the feel and the scent of a natural leather interior, I also deeply admired the historical use of tweeds, tartans, and corduroy. Also admired some of the vintage loop pile carpet vs the synthetic velour more commonly in use now.

Your thoughts? Is there a market for a cloth interior option?
A wool or alternative pile carpet material?

If there were a market, I'm sure it would have been an added cost option.

I doubt many would go for a cloth interior for several reasons. Cloth does not last as long as leather, retains odors and stains easily.

Also cloth interiors are seen on very low-end cars to keep the cost down thus has a less than stellar image for medium or high end cars. I believe Porsche AG can accommodate special orders such as this if you so desire.

The sport classic comes with a tweed like insert and the rest leather on the seats

Edit.
I may be wrong. Reading articles it says it's all leather though it looks like tweed

I guess this is heresy, but I've always liked cloth seats more than leather seats. Leather gets permanent wrinkles and old looking. Cloth doesn't wrinkle. Keep it clean and it doesn't stain. Leather is slippery, and cloth is grippier, holding you in place better during turns. Leather is cold in the mornings. Heated seats correct this, but cloth never gets cold. Likewise, leather can get pretty hot to the touch in the summer sun. Cloth does not. To me, the extra cost of leather is just not worth it, but I've never seen a newer 911 that didn't have leather seats. I have leather seats, but I also have heated seats and ventilated seats, and the perforations and tautness of the leather seem to eliminate the wrinkle problem (but not the stain problem) and make it more comfortable. Certainly not that big of a deal, though.

One thing I forgot, cloth seats in a high end car would probably be a resale problem.

If you want that sort of thing you will discover eventually that you are in the minority. In Germany, it took them awhile to get used to full leather because leather is pretty chilly in Garmisch in February. However, the American market interest in full leather prevailed.

Wear is a significant issue because only well-cared-for leather holds up the best. Velours and cloth inserts fail prematurely.

Ultimately, the next buyer will decide if your custom cloth interior is worthwhile.

I remember the grand classics often upholstered in wool, broadcloth, mohair, moquette, and some German cars, ie Mercedes Pullman from 60s upholstered optionally in velours and thinking these choices were creative and interesting

Anyone remember the OpArt fabric Porsche used when ntroducingbthe 928?

I recently sold An Audi S4 which had leather/Alcantara seats. I was amazed at how durable they were. As mentioned, cloth is too susceptible to staining and acquiring odours.

Alcantara (sp) is an option on most if not all 911 models. Standard on some of the models- GT2 and GTS. It does all of what your looking for. All surfaces your body touches can be done in This soft durable motorsport tested fabric.
