I think I just developed a crush on a 991S?

stoked they've brought the duck tail back - SWEET!

To me, the 991 always looks sharp from up front to the 3/4 front shot. It's when you move to the rear that it falls apart. That said, I saw this same configuration at my dealer last week and the ducktail helps to break up that flat, elongated rear portion that most detractors seem to have problems with. Maybe that's why they're sending cars configured like this from the factory. How many new 997's ended up on showroom floors with ducktails from the factory?
I think the overall proportions are getting a bit big, exterior/interior. I'm not a fan of the large centre stack either....I liked the spartan interiors in the 993/964.
I was recently thinking about a second one few years from now, a turbo cab....haven't decided whether I'd go for 991 or 997.

I like the 991 but, like speedster, my 997 is making me very happy.
I see a some trade offs in the 991, pluses and negatives from a style perspective. Here goes my list.
1. Lower profile and nose work really well. I feel a little ferrari going on, nice.
2. The lower profile does work against the car. Windows looked chop topped in a gm or customized sense. Don't like this and the car loses the bubble impact a bit.
3. The long wheelbase is nice and its nice to address the long rear overhang of the 997. It's probably the only part of the 997 I don't like.
4. While the lower profile and less overhang are pluses, the rear view of the car suffers somewhat. It looks too uniformly curved on the top half contrasting to a flat lower bottom. A giant suction cup. The hips lack the curve.
Better or worse? Hard to say. Certainly doesn't have that wow factor the 997 had over the 996. A big one for me.
Porsche did a nice job on the 991. The brown 4S in the promos looks divine.
I'll take it in brown or red. And no glass roof please.

991s are great cars, but when a car that cost $100K in a 997.2 is now $120K, that is downright ridiculous. For the haters of the 991 interior, just sit in it - it'll all make sense. It's very well thought-out.
My biggest gripes are electronic EVERYTHING and the price. A CPO, lightly-optioned, manual transmission car will be a nice find.
That said, I've got probably my last late-model 911. I still want an early one, and maybe a nice 964 of some flavor, but I can't see buying anything later than a 997.1 RS.

Now I'm curious if the dealers up here have it on display.

The 991 (176.81") is about 1.2" longer than the 997 (175.63") and is exactly the same width as the 997, (71.18").

The factory specs for length, width and height don't tell the whole story.
The 991 has various proportions that are larger all over the body of the car, as shown in this picture (991 in blue, 997 in red). This is why visually the 991 does look bigger to most.
I do like the looks of the 991. But frankly, I think both the 997 & 991 are larger than I'd like, so the added size of the 991 is certainly not a plus for me.

How accurate is that drawing? The front AND rear overhangs are supposed to be shorter in the new 991.
If you look at the front, the front of the wheel wells are lining up almost perfectly, and yet there is a LONGER overhang in the front on the 991.
If you look at the rear, allowing for the fact that the rear of the wheel well in the 991 projects posterior to that of the 997, the overhangs are then nearly identical.
I think relative proportions in the drawings are slightly off.

No what may cause me to trade/sell would be IF Porsche ever lets a 981 Cayman GTS or GT3 variant come our way! Please do! Even a nice 981 R may cause problems in my world! Loll
