I'm no fan of the ducktail-- in any models. But in the 991 it's simply cartoonish.

All it needs are some yellow wheels

Kid you not-- two weeks ago I saw a yellow and black 991S fitted with a ducktail. I laughed out loud to the point I had to explain my behaviour to my wife and daughter. They didn't get it, but I suspect many here do.

Maybe that's why they're sending cars configured like this from the factory. How many new 997's ended up on showroom floors with ducktails from the factory?
Now I'm curious if the dealers up here have it on display.

I think the overall proportions are getting a bit big, exterior/interior. I'm not a fan of the large centre stack either....I liked the spartan interiors in the 993/964.

I was recently thinking about a second one few years from now, a turbo cab....haven't decided whether I'd go for 991 or 997.

I like the 991 but, like speedster, my 997 is making me very happy.

I see a some trade offs in the 991, pluses and negatives from a style perspective. Here goes my list.

1. Lower profile and nose work really well. I feel a little ferrari going on, nice.
2. The lower profile does work against the car. Windows looked chop topped in a gm or customized sense. Don't like this and the car loses the bubble impact a bit.
3. The long wheelbase is nice and its nice to address the long rear overhang of the 997. It's probably the only part of the 997 I don't like.
4. While the lower profile and less overhang are pluses, the rear view of the car suffers somewhat. It looks too uniformly curved on the top half contrasting to a flat lower bottom. A giant suction cup. The hips lack the curve.

Better or worse? Hard to say. Certainly doesn't have that wow factor the 997 had over the 996. A big one for me.

Porsche did a nice job on the 991. The brown 4S in the promos looks divine.

I'll take it in brown or red. And no glass roof please.

991s are great cars, but when a car that cost $100K in a 997.2 is now $120K, that is downright ridiculous. For the haters of the 991 interior, just sit in it - it'll all make sense. It's very well thought-out.

My biggest gripes are electronic EVERYTHING and the price. A CPO, lightly-optioned, manual transmission car will be a nice find.

That said, I've got probably my last late-model 911. I still want an early one, and maybe a nice 964 of some flavor, but I can't see buying anything later than a 997.1 RS.

Big??

The 991 (176.81") is about 1.2" longer than the 997 (175.63") and is exactly the same width as the 997, (71.18").

I've never compared dimension specs....to my eye it appears bigger both inside and out.

The factory specs for length, width and height don't tell the whole story.

The 991 has various proportions that are larger all over the body of the car, as shown in this picture (991 in blue, 997 in red). This is why visually the 991 does look bigger to most.

I do like the looks of the 991. But frankly, I think both the 997 & 991 are larger than I'd like, so the added size of the 991 is certainly not a plus for me.

How accurate is that drawing? The front AND rear overhangs are supposed to be shorter in the new 991.

If you look at the front, the front of the wheel wells are lining up almost perfectly, and yet there is a LONGER overhang in the front on the 991.

If you look at the rear, allowing for the fact that the rear of the wheel well in the 991 projects posterior to that of the 997, the overhangs are then nearly identical.

I think relative proportions in the drawings are slightly off.

Just drove a 991S today at the dealer while picking up wifey's Panamera6 after a service campaign was found. Agree Chris they are very nice and I didn't find the cockpit all that bad as I thought I would. Kinda cosy and everything is well placed and thought out. Engine is nice and it is quick and responsive. But not in an eggy and raw way that my 997.2 C4S is. Feels less connected with the road and like the car is doing and filtering a lot of things for me vs letting me feel it and decide for myself how to react/respond! That can be nice and a plus depending on what each driver-owner is coming from or wants in his/her car. Overall I think it was a very nice car, well done and smooth. They had a triple black 991 C4S there that was ready for delivery to a customer that Id gladly own...however the expense as you mention of what amounts to in some cases a 10-15% price upgrade combined with the above don't have me sold enuff to trade my 997.2 C4S in for one now. Maybe a CPO in a few years but not yet....not now.

No what may cause me to trade/sell would be IF Porsche ever lets a 981 Cayman GTS or GT3 variant come our way! Please do! Even a nice 981 R may cause problems in my world! Loll

Drawings done directly by Porsche. I can only assume that a company that takes pride in engineering would have accurate drawing proportions; especially on the 991, as it's the car Porsche is specifically marketing. It was part of a gift set sent to many Porsche owners when the new 991 was released. It has the profile of each generation of 911 on clear plastic, comes with a display stand, and personalized with one's name. As far as I can tell, all of the drawings are the same scale.
