Default Weird problem with 997.2

I've had the car for 3 weeks now and noticed when backing up with the steering turned to lock the car skips as though the tires rub or something's binding. It's sort of like a 4x4 pickup making a hard turn. Anyone else see this issue?

Yes! I've had my car for a few weeks and was going to post just this question..... seems like the suspension geometry doesn't like a full cocked turn.

Yes, full lock causes the tires to skip in cold weather. The tires become harder and less flexable when they are cold. This will be much less noticable when the weather warms up.

Same here. Used to think it was sticking rotors, but it happens too often in the cold.

I have this even with weather in the 60's here in Northern CA when driving forward, and the steering is locked or near locked pulling from my drive way. That's the only time I've noticed this, first thing pulling out when the wheels are at that angle.

I had the same experience with my car. I asked the dealership this week as I had the PCM software updated to the latest version. They told me it has to do with the design and alignment of the car. Our car are designed to take corners at high speeds.

On the new 991, there is a $250 option called the slow speed turning option. I believe this option address the issue.

When backing up, I no longer cut the wheel all the way when possible.

It does make sense but just surprised me for a street car. I had an SLA race front suspension in my Mustang which would do the same thing. There were bump stops in the steering rack to prevent it but then it limited your maneuverability significantly. On track no issue, but a pain in parking lots.

Hmmm. I wonder if they're just limiting the steering travel with stops. For $250 I can't imagine there's much else done to affect geometry.

I'm pretty sure all this option does is provide variable assist where the power steering provides increased assistance at low speeds.

I am in the market for a 2010-2011 C4S with PDK and test drove one from Livermore Porsche. When I was backing her up my brother and I noticed that it did the same thing. I am glad to hear this is a known issue and not something that was wrong with this C4S. I passed on this car due to some wear and tear issues and I am still looking.

I noticed two things. The poster and the second guy and I are all from the Philly area (hope you guys go out to the cars and coffee this Saturday in Cherry Hill, would love to meet Rennlist members). The second is my car does exactly the same thing. I have my summer tires on there as I have a Grand Wagoneer as a winter car but if it isn't snowing I drive my 911 regardless of the temperature. That being said the tires are rock hard and they take a good 15-20 minutes to get to what I considering warm enough speeds before driving more spirited.

Unfortunately I'll be out of town. I see you're a Riesentoter member. I've been out with Shattenbaum at NJMP several time in my Mustang. Might take the 997.2 out oat the end of the season/

Here's clip beating up on some GT3's.
