997 GTS vs 991S

Interesting thread and I hope the GTS owner comments keep coming. When I upgrade from my .2 Carrera I want a GTS. I love my car and haven't warmed up to the 991 so that should keep me happy for some time.

I have an '11 GTS with almost 30K miles on it. I've driven a 991S on a track (briefly) and had one as a loaner for 48 hrs.
I'm lukewarm about the new car.
My first 911 was an '08 C2. After having it for 18 months, I had a chance to drive a brand new 997.2S PDK at PSDS in Alabama. My reaction was "OMG I've got to get one!" I leased one two months later.
When the GTS was announced, once again it was "OMG I've got to get one!" I think I leased the first one to arrive at my dealer that wasn't pre-sold.
When the Panamera first came out I wasn't bowled over, but it gradually grew on me until I ended up purchasing my P4S after they'd been out about six months.
When I drove the 991S, my reaction was "Nice car." It's fast, comfortable, and I wouldn't mind owning one. But it didn't evoke the "OMG" response that I've experienced previously. There's just too much about the GTS that I like and I'd miss if I went to the 991S. Now -- when the 991 GT3 comes out, or maybe a 991 GTS - well, that might be a diferent story.
As weird as it seems, I was actually more impressed when I drove a new '13 Boxster for a week. That is a FUN car! I can't wait for the new Cayman.
So I've been through four Porsches in five years. If the 991 really rocked my world I'd be driving one already. My biggest tug towards getting one is the realization that, as much as I like my GTS, the 991S is actually faster in AX and DE events. But I think I can wait for the GTS/GT3 to arrive. I think.

I drove both while car shopping last summer and went with the GTS. I would consider a 991 GT3 or GTS version down the road, but not for the current C2S or C4S. The 2nd gen 991 should also have the 430 hp engine as standard issue as well as a lot of other improvements. I can easily enjoy my current car for 5 more years and then see what the GT3 and 2nd gen 991 offers. Unlike some here, I usually keep my cars for awhile. This car could end up being a keeper. It's more car than I'll ever need.

When I was 30 you could tell me some funny looking girl with a flat chest and skinny legs was well educated, had a good job and would make a great life partner all you wanted.......and my Mom did many times with many different women.......unfortunately I had eyes and I could see........end of debate!

oh come on, we need more of this discussion.
Although I could certainly afford a new 991, i love my 997. More visceral, more raw and a real 911. The 991 is not even a real Porsche (but did I mention that I could afford one)

Looked at them both as well when buying my car last Fall.
Decided on the C4GTS as it is a manual and a heck of a lot fun to drive. The 991S was more powerful and especially crazy with the Sport plus button. Performance-wise it is not even a contest.
The 991 felt like any other luxury car inside, while the 9974GTS felt sports-basic and more of a classic in the long run. There will be plenty of 991s coming into the market and anyone can purchase and drive one.
In the end, I didn't want to purchase what everyone else seemed to be interested in at the dealership. I'd rather be part of the smaller bunch that does not want to become part of the larger one...
