You will be able to go on the California DMV site about two weeks after the ticket and see the fine amount. Got zapped two years ago doing 81 in a 65 on the 170 freeway. Was $325. I'd brace yourself for a significantly higher Jerry Brown special present.

The laws here are draconian and asinine and, honestly, don't really work to deter speeding and need to be repealed. A legal system should never be based on the premise of "oh, nobody ever gets reckless a driving conviction, they always let you plea bargain down".

$328 fine for 95 in a 65 zone is way more appropriate than 12 months in jail for doing 80 in a 70 zone.
This is crazy, here in Texas everyone drives over the speed limit, most freeways are posted at 75 mph outside of Metro areas and if you don't go 90 on the left lane better move over or they run you over. We even have a toll road with legal limit at 85 mph.

That is true based on my observation but only us out of state Porsche drivers get pulled over and ticketed.

In my case 3 times. No wait, 2 times. I talked my way out of a horrible bogus ticket down on I-20.

And at night that 65mph speed limit is strictly enforced.

The last time I asked the officer for a warning stating that everyone was going 10mph and he told me his directive was to cite anyone speeding. Shoot, had he really done that he could have cited everyone on I-40.

I've never driven on the 85mph road but I have used the 80mph freeway out west. Oh yeah, baby that's sweet, but the limit is still 20mph under what it should be.

I mean with the excessive speed on this ticket, the judge might not let you do traffic school which means it will show up on your driving record.

If this were me, I wouldn't worry too much about the $$$$ of the fine but my driving record, higher insurance rates for years, etc.

I was sentenced to 90 days in jail in Virginia when I got caught doing well over 100 mph.

Served 3 days and walked. Also paid a 1200 fine.

Coworker got caught at 105mph in his Lamborghini in the same county just recently and got 6 month loss of license and a 1500 fine.

Wow! and I thought State of Ohio was the worst with speeding violations. Did you have an attorney?

Sure did, that's how got such a "sweetheart deal" of 3 days. Prosecutor wanted me to do at least 25 days in jail.

Most severe county in the nation for traffic violations.

last year on 74 just outside Palm Desert I was caught passing a car at 101 in a 55 (I actually sped up to not hit the trooper head on as really I was only going 75 but had nowhere to pull back in the gap closed when I pulled out). He didn't care wrote me up at 101. I'm certain he sped up himself when he saw me coming in the passing lane. He could have killed my wife and me (really).

I paid (no wasted) $3500 for 866 Speeding dot com law firm of Sherman Ellison. All they did was show up and ask to have it reduced based on calibration margin of error. So the judge reduced it to 99 and that was it for the trial. There is a difference between 99 and 101 in terms of severity but for $3500 I expected A LOT more than that. Was furious....then my fine was $1000 and my insurance more than doubled on both cars we own and will stay that way for 3 years.

So all in that 15 second pass cost me $10K+.

I find it interesting that you take no responsibility for the fact that you actually could have killed the officer, your wife AND yourself... No ownership of having broken the law and put people in danger, but even better, accused the officer for speeding up to try to kill you! I think your court experience was karma.

I'll give you this... You've got big brass ones.
