Well it finally happened after 7 months of ownership of my C2S a CHP finally got me going 95 in a 65. Just for the record I wasn't averaging 95, but was going around slower traffic. Anyhow what is the fine for "excessive speed" like $328 right?

Here in FL, I've used the Ticket Attorney specialists and take each ticket to court. Could be thrown out or lowered. At the very least, I don't get any points on my record/insurance. I also highly recommend the Escort 9500ix and Escort Live - it's probably saved me a few thousand in the last year alone, just on my 80 mile commute.

About 2 years ago the CHP busted me for the same, 95 in a 65 zone. I was figuring that the fine for this must be approaching $1000. I was surprised when the fine arrived in the mail that it was ONLY something like $450. I believe that is the max fine for speeding on CHP patrolled highways. However they can confiscate your car if they see fit to do so. My ticket was written up as a basic speeding ticket. If they write you up for a more serious infraction such as exhibition of speed or excessive speed the penalties could be much worse. Does your ticket actually say "excessive speed" on it?
Oh yeah, doing traffic school was not an option. They just wanted the $450 period. Done deal.

Doesn't it say on the ticket?
30 mph over in Ontario and it's $10,000, one week suspension and they impound your car.

Bummer but that's not bad compared to the "rolling right hand stop" at a red light ticket I got last year in NorCal for $495. Issued by a camera cop no less! At lease your ticket was issued to a worthy car... got my ticket was issue while I was driving in a Hertz rental. I feel completely cheated.

Always burns me...when we switched to metric decades ago, the fine for 10MPH over was $13.00. The next day, after going metric, 10KmPH over was still $13.00. Same fine for going almost half the speed!

20mph over the speed limit, or anything over 80mph, in Virginia is automatic reckless driving and punishable by a $2500 fine and 1 year in jail. "Driving too fast for conditions" is entirely subjective, and will get you the same. The laws here are draconian and asinine and, honestly, don't really work to deter speeding and need to be repealed. A legal system should never be based on the premise of "oh, nobody ever gets reckless a driving conviction, they always let you plea bargain down".
$328 fine for 95 in a 65 zone is way more appropriate than 12 months in jail for doing 80 in a 70 zone.

No, SharpMan is correct. 50km/h (+/-30mph) gets you a "possible" fine of $10,000 + car impound + suspension. 30km/h does not get you an impound and $10k fine in Ontario on a typical roadway (ie: no school or construction, etc.).

My last ticket (a couple of years ago) was for doing 45 in a 35 and it cost me $178. Administrative fees and tuition for online traffic school was extra. If you only pay a $328 fine for excessive speed @ 95 in a 65 you can count yourself as extremely lucky. I'd do to court to see if I could get the ticket knocked down to basic speeding and/or a lower level of fine.
