Default Typical MPG?

Hey fellow 997.1 C2S owners what have you guys seen as typical mpg around town and freeway? I just got back from a mostly freeway trip and the computer said I was averaging 17.9 mpg. Does this sound pretty typical?

Many threads about this. Try a search. Here're a couple where the OP was asking about 997.1Ss:

I'm at around 15.8 combined - mostly spend my time in-town-ish. Probably 65%/35%.

Did you reset the computer trip mileage to zero at your last fill-up? Try it again but do it manually this time. I have 2008 turbo and consistently get 21+ with freeway driving.

16mpg driving between SF and Marin and lots of errands at each end with zero effort to conserve gas.

For reference in the same conditions:

10mpg 2008 G500
15mpg 2008 GL450
19mpg 2002 330i
29mpg 2008 Civic Hybrid

I get 14 in the city but 28 on the highway. Reasonably happy with that.

I don't understand how this is possible. Around town driving for me is easily in the low teens. And I'm not gunning it from stop sign to stop sign or shifting at 5K.

Dan - what are you doing that I'm not doing?

Auto transmissions get better MPG and if you are not a hurry it upshifts quickly to keep RPM's low for better gas mileage. I have a manual and routinely shift at 4000-4500 RPM for normal driving thus get around 16 MPG mostly city driving. Best highway miles for me has been 21 MPG.
