I'm speculating here but there is large glass wall at the back of the building as you enter from the front of the Museum. On the viewer side is a nice cafe where people mingle but on the other side you can see techs actively restoring and maintaining various era p-cars. So I suspect these examples to be functional cars to a certain extent. Of course, these are "Museum queens" and suffer like most such cars from dried seals overtime... note the 1st photo posted. There's a drip pan under the red 356 with ski's on top which I take is evidence of some dried out seals. It would have been fun/nostalgic to drive that one up to the Swiss alps for the ski portion of our vacation.

I guess my question would have been without sounding silly,if you think they take the functional cars out for a drive on their track every once in a while and do some maintenance...
Good catch on the oil pan BTW...
I know Porsche has a facility where they restore old 911s to like new condition...there's a video on YouTube about it...you can send your personal car there to have restored for a lot of money...

I have been there twice, the first time was on a Monday and the museum was closed. This was true for the MB museum too. It seems like this is a normal thing. When I called about the factory tour, there are certain days they offer a English speaking tour. The second visit Was not on a Monday, so i was successful. For the museum tour, they do offer PCA member discounts. Well worth the trip.

I was there early this year in April. It seems like they've changed a few things. They used to have all the generations of 911's on those rotating circles, but it's been replaced by the display of the Turbo generations. I suspect they must be getting ready for the new 991 Turbo launch.

Thanks for sharing. Was there in October on a Sunday and did both the MB and then Porsche museums. On Monday the factory tour was a real highlight of our trip. Met fellow RL Dave from Georgia there.(007DT) At the Porsche museum they had an 1995 car rev up for 3 min or so with exhaust hoses hooked up. Not a library for sure with all the great sounds of the engine.

Nice pictures. I'll be in Stuttgart/Ingolstadt in July with my son. Already have museum and factory tours arranged with MB and Audi. Bit sad that minimum age for Zuffenhousen tour is 16 (my son is 13). Looking forward to the Porsche museum regardless.

Daberlin. It will give you a reason to come back in a few years. On the factory floor the tour group dodges quite a few of those programmed carts with parts. Perhaps one of the reasons they try to limit group size and age min. Don't know for sure.
