Default Holiday Pics from the Porsche Museum

We just got back from celebrating our family's "white Christmas" vacation in Zurich this year. We made the drive up to Stuttgart... always fun to drive the Autobahn but in a Hertz Toyota station wagon... I really missed my C2S. The factory, unfortunately, is closed from the 12th of December thru the holidays so we could only visit the Museum and the P-dealer across the street. Here are some pics from the Museum. Sounds like a reason for us to revisit this place... Wonderful to see all the examples of various p-cars from the beginning. LMK you you guys want to see more pics. Made me want to run out and buy a classic. Happy Holiday and cheers to all.

Have plenty more pics if anyone is interested. A fun stop for the family and I. Highly recommended and only 2 hrs drive from Zurich.

Don't know why but that was the only pic that came out blurry. Here are a few more.

Thanks all... felt like a kid in the best kind of candy store. Hope one of my boys caught the bug and aspires toward ownership someday. My youngest(19 yrs old) is a real car nut and has worked with me on many of my projects over the past 10 yrs... the 964's caught his eye.

Thanks for the pics of the F1's Papa Fittig. I don't believe they had those F1's on the floor. Here are a few more pics and some unusual examples as well.

I feel fortunate to have visited the place. Something inspiring about going back to the "faserland". One of those surreal checks on the bucket list especially as my grandfather was a German immigrant. BTW, there's a great little local restaurant across the tracks from the museum. The Museum has two or three of their own but I didn't want to hang with the other tourist. The factory had already been closed for Christmas but there was still a table full of workers in their lab coats setting at a table across the room from us. They must of been the skeleton crew for the factory or perhaps the techs restoring some of the examples we saw in the Museum. Neat to just be in the heart of it all, drinking wonderful German bier, and in the presence of some of those who may have potentially built my p-car. Well... unlikely but cool just the same.

ECS, hope you get out there soon. I'm no expect with that part of the world but can share what I know when your plans firm up. Hotel and airfare was surprisingly reasonable... and the bier will ruin you. GL and Happy Holidays to all.

Did the Porsche, Mercedes Benz, Audi & BMW museums in 2011 w/ my son (he picked up his M3 at BMW Welt). Great experience for German car nuts. I'm Porsche centric, but the Mercedes Benz museum was pretty impressive.

The Euro Delivery at BMW was quite a memorable experience as well. They do a really nice job delivering your BMW. Until recently Porsche would charge extra for Euro delivery while BMW offers a nice discount (pretty sweet incentive). I don't think Porsche (at least I didn't see it) is set up for factory deliveries (ie. special lounges, tours, hand-holding, etc etc) like BMW or Audi is. Maybe in time they'll develop that process.

Wow, it's certainly grown. The last time I was there for a European Delivery in 2000, the "museum" was about the size of my living room! It was very small, but the experience was very personal. We ended up going out for a few a beers and later on dinner with the museum director. He's probably too busy for that now!

Any interesting or unique accessories/goodies for sale there? I plan on checking it out after the classic car show in Essen next April.

Thanks for the photos USMC.

Such a good museum. Looks like they added a hot pink 993 Turbo this year!

Well... that should be a Guards Red 993 Turbo and maybe my favorite of the lot. My Motorola Droid phone could only do so much with the limited lighting inside so a little imaginative color correction may be in order. The Museum store did have an extensive collection of scaled collectable cars amongst other items. I was hoping to find an exact scaled model of my 997.1 S in G-Red and could only come up with a 1:87 scaled car... a little small but easy to pack for the trip home.

Plenty of GT3's, older classics, and more current scaled models on hand though. There's also a Porsche Design store in the P-Dealership across the street which has a full collection of gift items. My wife did the sneaky purchase by getting me a scarf while I was roaming the show floor - they had 3 Carrera GT's on the floor!
