Did somebody say 'garage?'

I've got a small suburban garage (20'x21') and I put it together with a pretty low budget. I learned as I went, doing all of the work myself -- including setting the tile and digging the pit for the lift.

The total budget, including the floor, cabinets, benches and lift was less than $4,000. Everything you see is second-hand, re-purposed or home-made. The car is old, and so is pretty much everything else you see.

It's got to wear a few different hats. I do automotive work in it, some carpentry and some metal fabrication.

I made a website for it: http://www.12-gaugegarage.com

Work benches that fold down from the wall:

There is no 911 that's been lowered too much to fit on this lift. And there's nothing to trip over when the car is out.

And it's got its own a video:

And yes, a video just about the lift I put in:

Is it always this clean? No. Not by a long shot.

But it does go back to clean very quickly -- that's the real accomplishment of it, I think. I finally took the time to work out a place for everything to go when It's not being used.

In practice, it makes a huge difference not having to spend so much time looking for things you've misplaced. I spent years doing that.

I LOVE IT! Sometimes "old" is best, especially when you do it yourself!

I totally love the ride by the way.

I co-own 5 spots in a West Loop condo building that the builder put a wall around. 2 commercial roll up doors and a service door. I have a 4 post lift in the center spot now. I can actually cram in 6 cars but right now there is a small Boston Whaler, a 190SL, 230S, new style T-bird, 80s Jeep Wagoneer, and a lot of my junk....mostly vintage MB parts. Dry, heated, secure. I actually re-assembled a 190SL in there.

Very handy....

Not the best picture. From the initial inspection before purchase.

Thanks!

The phone is from 1951. A Western Electric 354. It's just old, never cleaned up or restored. But when I got it I wired it in, dialed my cell phone, and (of course) it worked great. They really knew how to build things back then. (It's hard to imagine an iPhone even working on the network in 2070.)

Wow that is fantastic, I don't suppose you're looking for additional equity? Access to lift would be amazing.

We live at North and Clybourn in lincoln park; just lucky enough to have semi-enclosed garage with some extra room for the sport bike.

I'm pretty close to you. Just off North between Ashland/Damen. I have a 2 car garage here also.

I'll check with the co-owner and see if he has any interest....
